The Guards Logo
The Wings - These are to represent the Guards' heliborne capabilities.
Bayonet and Laurel - These are symbols of the Guardsmen's superior skills as infantry soldiers.
"Ready to Strike" - This is the motto adopted by the Guards, which is to be ever prepared to strike against the enemy.
Gold - This colour is associated with loyalty (to the nation), devotion (to our duty) and dedication (to the task that has been set before us).
The Guards Cap Badge Backing
Inaugurated on 6th April 1979, the maroon cap-badge backing with its gold border and 2 bold blue diagonal stripes are the elite symbol for the Guards. It is worn with the SAF cap badge on the beret of every soldier in 7 SIB.
The maroon base symbolises valour, courage, confidence, aggression, the will to endeavour and the Guards' Esprit-de-Corps.
The golden yellow border represents the desire for excellence in training and in overall achievement. It reminds the wearer to place the expectations and demands of the nation before self.
The diagonal stripes signify loyalty to the SAF as well as integrity and dedication expected of the selected few who wear the badge.
The Guards Beret
The Khaki Beret was presented to the Guards Formation on 9th June 1994 in recognition of the Guards' elite status. While the infantry green beret was worn with the Cap Badge Backing previously, all Guards vocationalists have since donned their distinctive Guards Khaki Beret with a deep sense of pride.
The Guards Tab
Inaugurated on 23rd June 1989. It is awarded to those who pass the following courses:
a. Guards Officer Conversion Course (GOCC)
b. Guards Specialist Conversion Course (GSCC)
c. Guards Advanced Continuation Training (Guards ACT)
Cliff rappeling (With casualty)
Saw the steel pot helmet, it good for boiling water. (That was long time ago for al ARMS in the SAF.)

The Guards Stable Belt
On 31st July 1980, the men of 7 SIB were presented with Stable Belts, an elite symbol the men deservedly earned for their excellence in training, performance, discipline, conduct and bearing. The Stable Belt was to be worn with the old Temasek Green uniform. With the introduction of the new uniforms, the Stable Belt is no longer in use. -

Regarding the stable belts - I've worn those belts with the current no.4 uniform in a Guards parade before (a long time ago) - so not really true that the belts are worn only with the old Temasek green uniforms.
PS - It seems that the special operations website has copied the whole lot of web pages from the old Mindef website. -

We still wear it for Parade Ceremony on Smart4 uniform with bayonet until SAF stop issue the normal green belt to enlistee... -

There used to be three Guards battalions, 1Gds, 2Gds, and 3Gds. 2nd Guards was disbanded around 1994 and its Colour was also retired.

I hate to spoil the party, but i need to tell the truth:
The Guards were once the lowest foot soldiers trained only to do sentry duty at the Istana. After a hard days work, they go back to Colombo camp in Ulu pandan to rest...........
Well, maybe they are not at the bottom.......that honour belonged to 5th battalion SIR who got lost in the Malaysian jungle during a 5 power exercise called Bersatu Padu........but that is another story........ (which I will dwell on another day.....

That is the cover story to hide the true capability of that unit from the very start in 70s!!!!
As the unit matured, more units were converted from infantry to Guard units to form RD heli-borne Bde.
You think SAF have so many men to spare just to perform ceremonial guard duty?!?
If you still believe the cover story which was exposed many years ago as a truth, then I believe your IQ is a single digit!!!!! -
I think guardsmen are hot. thinking infantry
then again, I'm biased. My bf is in guards
I think army guys in general are hot. ok depends on whether occifer/specialist (I like men with power). also whether tall and muscular. good looking and patriotic also helps. pack all of these ingredients up and you get 1 damn hot guy.
incidentally, where do army regulars (i.e. not the siao dee dees) hang out? they all seem quite beng leh and always got young cmi lians hanging off thier arms. actually, my bf quite beng too. but I not lian leh. hiaz. -

guards were derived in the UK....there were irish guards.....scottish guards...they are all elite infantrymen.....the similarity between the guards in singapore and the irish guards are the khaki berets that they don... -
Yes, Guardsman are basically Infantry soldiers, its juz that they given more exposure/recognition by the media/public. Helicopters, Lightstrike vehicles, poster and the kakis beret etc...
I'd seen quite a lot of Infantry man, specialists and officers that are more capable and professional. For that I would not agree that Guardsman are much better than Infantryman. -

"To her credit, in 1992, 1 Guards was the first unit in the SAF to achieve REDCON I in the training evaluation exercise conducted by the Battalion Training Evaluation Centre (BTEC), and was the Best Infantry Unit in 1992 and 1996."
I rememebered someone in the unit suggesting to make t-shirts with the Redcon1 result printed on it. Was ban by MSD I think. It was a sensitive topic - until I noticed it was published on Mindef's website in the late 1990's. But the new website has this fact removed again. -

It may interest you guys to know (for those who don't) that the current Chief Infantry Officer is a Guardsman.

Something interesting caught my attention too while I was still a fresh recruit coz one of the former CGO (BG Philip Su) was not a Guardsman. Hardly surprising now to find serving Chiefs from different arms.
