Seems that we have forgotten Warrant Officer S Balakrishnan as well. I knew him when he was a MSG or SSG {really cannot remember...damn long liaoz :p} during POW training and he struck me as a reasonable and nice person who gave tough training but yet humanistic. Each night he will ensure the trainee's good health and would not unnecessary put the trainee's health at risk. It is a pity for him.

Anyway, I knew him when he was a platoon sargeant in another company because we had mutual friends in the battalion. While I personally knew him to be a top bloke, he did have a reputation in the battalion as the wild sort. You account matches what I'd heard about him while I was overseas, namely that he'd mellowed out a lot. Unfortunately, with his past, he didn't stand much of a chance in this witch hunt. -

not much of stories i can tell cos im not a good story teller and im in another platoon. e only story i remembered vividly was during service term field camp in Tekong, his section was halted and "taken POW" by a fighting patrol from another rival company, Bravo. Mr Ranger, sneaked out in the dark, made a small flank and used his bayonet to silenced e entire enemy patrol. -
can i just ask how is it like in other reputed armies in the world? i guess like the US army? is qualification a huge requirement in deciding whether a soldier gets a chance to be an officer or specialist?
and.. anyone know wat's MINDEF's take on officers (generally) needing at least A levels or diploma?
