u hate the weight?...its the lightest SAW in the world!!the m249 is twice its weight..Originally posted by KumSioJui:The thing I like abt our SAW is the removable stock, the foldable mount, a shorter barrel and of course the 100 round drum magazine.
What I hate is the weight
just that u need a special tool to take it out..thats all...so its impractical to use drum and carry the tool out in battle...so they use the normal mag arh...Originally posted by sane_guy2:They don't use the drum magazine? WHat do they use then? M-16 magazine? If so, it defeats the purpose of SAW which is continuous fire.
special tool to take what out?Originally posted by sidestep1984:just that u need a special tool to take it out..thats all...so its impractical to use drum and carry the tool out in battle...so they use the normal mag arh...
the drum.....heard from my frens u need a tool to take it out cos of some strong springOriginally posted by bcoy:special tool to take what out?
to reload the drum(onli applies to drum) u need a toolOriginally posted by sane_guy2:You don't need tools to put in or take out magazine from gun. You need tools to put bullets into the drum magazine because your hand is not strong enough to push bullets into the magazine. For M-16 magazine, the bullets are pushed in by bare hands.
it was more of a testOriginally posted by sane_guy2:Singapore's ultimax was never in competition for the US SAW requirement.
The war in former Yugoslavia......soldiers from Croatia used our SAW and found it to be good. They could have chosen any saw but they chose ours.
Check your facts.Originally posted by sidestep1984:to reload the drum(onli applies to drum) u need a tool
its a major factor why the US chose the M249 over the Ultimax
i corrected myself and put out a link.....Originally posted by southpark2000:Check your facts.
The U100 was not part of the competition. It came out after the US had a comp and decided on the M249

The answer is no.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Huhz?Take out mehz...I tot it is only during the process of loading the 100 round drum mag then are tools needed.
Anyway, just to sidetrack alittle,I understand that the Ultimax can be loaded from a standard M16 Mag and the 100 round drum. But can it be loaded with 5.56mm belts or like the M249 Minimi style, through a box carrying belt?

The way I heard it, it wasn't because of the drum. Parts of the bolt design were too similar to that on the M16, and Colt challenged it in court as a copyright infringement. While Colt and CIS were duking it out, FN came along and snaffled the US SAW contract.Originally posted by sidestep1984:to reload the drum(onli applies to drum) u need a tool
