  I tot that during war time operation, the SAW gunner will be carrying drum mags three or four in a special bag/pouch, only during peace time training they are using 30 rounds mag.
  
  If they only use 30 round mag during operation, then it will not give sufficient suppressive firepower if they need to change mag every 10~15 sec !!!

  off topic...the m249 is beltfeed rite?....just that it uses a bag or box (looks like a drum to me) to house the belt?

  The FN Minimi/M249 is both belt fed (the rounds come in a box) and also magazine fed.

  i see....was watching Blackhawk down...the rangers were putting in belt ammo in those little spiffy bags.......so it got me wondering...
