When the time comes for SAFISAM next year (too late to join this years as it's on going now), tell your formation's/ unit's convenor that you want to join.
Not sure if they'll have M16/ M4 next year but this year's rifle matches are using SAR21. If you perform well in the individual matches, you'll be asked for your details to try for Shooting Contingent. The best I've seen was some Warrant Zaire from SIW. His M16 grouping at 300m is like less than 15cm. And he runs faster than the guards and commandos who are probably half his age.
Trust me, it's very different from ATP. An example of this year's SAR21 + SAW match:
Specs will use SAW, Men use SAR21. Run down 500m in SBO, then run from 500m mark to 300m mark. SAW fires, SAR21 users run down 100m. SAR21 fires, SAW users run down 100m. Repeat until 100m mark. All of this is done with SBO + helmet. One full water bottle mandatory.
I took part in last year's M16 rifle matches. That was rundown + timing as well.
One of the matches:
At 300m mark:
Standing shoulder w/ magazine loaded BUT NOT COCKED. Fig 11 pop up for 12 seconds. Firer goes into prone, cock, fire 4 rounds into Fig 11 before it goes down. Once down, 10s to unload, check clear and keep magazine in SBO. Failure to keep magazine in SBO results in points penalty.
10s up, Fig 11 will pop up for 35s. Firers to run down to 200m mark and adopt squating/ kneeling position. Load, cock and fire 3 rounds into target before it goes down. Same thing, 10s to unload etc.
10s up, Fig
12 will pop up for 35s. Firers run down to 100m mark and adopt STANDING SHOULDER position. Load, cock and fire 3 rounds into target (FIG 12) before it goes down.
The most fun part was the team falling plate match. Shooting 6 inch metal plates at 200m. LoL.. Everyone scrambles to run down and fire off.
