friend 70's that time where got SOF !!! bring up so old issues ..... like my grandmother say - that time police still wear shorts ! How to compare ?Originally posted by idwar:The last occasion when Gurkha Police in Singapore used their weapons in a battle situation was in the seventies. Kidnappers had barricaded themselves at a house in Serangoon. The Police Reserve Unit (SOC) was called to arrest the kidnappers. The kidnappers were given a chance to surrender by a Police Inspector calling out from a loud hailer.Whilst calling from the top of a riot vehicle, the Police inspector was shot dead. At the same time the criminals opened fire with sub-machineguns. Several other Police officers were wounded by automatic fire as well as hand grenades. A firefight ensued with hundreds of rounds fired, but the police were unable to move forward without risk of further casualties.........
Faced with this failure, the Gurkhas were called in. In the face of automatic gun fire, several stood up in the open to cut the fence using wirecutters, igoring the fire directed at them. When the fence was cut, a party dashed into the house from the front door. The kidnappers were all shot dead. No Gurkha casualties recorded.................real malu for local SPF.......
Seems like idwar up to his farking nonsense again - as usual, trying to start a flame war. Farmer Brown to you, a bunch of streetgangsters with weilding broken bottles for a policeman with a revovler to face them is super dangerous ?Originally posted by Farmer Brown:You guys talk about shooting as if its nothing. I bet you guys don't even dare to stand up to a whole bunch of streetgangsters weilding broken bottles so don't criticize the policemen that have to put their lives on the line for the lives of others.
My reference to the streetgangsters was for those who dare claim that the police are useless. What I meant was that these people who sit behind a monitor and criticize our armed forces obviously have not been put in those situations. IÂ’m asking these people who have the audacity to shoot their mouths off to put themselves in the shoes of our men in blue.Originally posted by storywolf:Farmer Brown to you, a bunch of streetgangsters with weilding broken bottles for a policeman with a revovler to face them is super dangerous ?
But here is the military forum ! This little stuff also dare to compare !
We have soldiers here that faced off with people armed guns and other more dangerous before in missions, so don't come and insult soldiers on facing a few drunken with bottles.
Actually, not true about special forces not available in the 70s. If you are talking pre- 74, then you are right.Originally posted by storywolf:friend 70's that time where got SOF !!! bring up so old issues ..... like my grandmother say - that time police still wear shorts ! How to compare ?
That time Singapore still infant stage of developing their police and army. Yep that time Malaysia and Indonesia also better armed then us lah !!! Now after 30 + years different question already lah .... !!!
5 year ago , police with revolver also have problem shoot you due to not enough shoot training. Nowaday all revolver with laser sight, all can shoot super already lah.
LOL , that is depend on you call them special forces for name only or if they truely have the equip & capabilities . That is depend on how you classified special forces - some books even include commandos and guards units as special forces.Originally posted by specfore:Actually, not true about special forces not available in the 70s. Anyway, the Home Minister would not deploy army special forces that easily in what is a "normal" criminal operation. So unfortunately have to rely on our riot police at that time.
agreed dude.Originally posted by SpecOps87:KNN...these days I did say tt the street gangs are all but a bunch of scum...no standard.Gangs in other countries fight over turf, pimping, drugs, blackmarket, protection munny,gun-running.What do SG street gangs fight over? You see me,I see you,not happy, chiong each other,or over ger problems...Think it is utterly stupid!!!
Gangs in other countries have guns and stuff,in SG,these pathetic bunch of losers use bottle, use parang. But lan lan,go in army, also let the sergeant or encik kan until behave like a puppy. For what right?
Yes, I know what you're saying. But I am also aware that just after that incident in '74, our govt realised that we had no proper response, except for the Police tactical unit and the Gurkhas and some commandos. Post '74, we made the effort to build up the seeds of today's SOF, and also today's Police STAR unit.Originally posted by storywolf:LOL , that is depend on you call them special forces for name only or if they truely have the equip & capabilities . in 70s singapore definitiely didn't really have that force that are that advance equip and train to be call special forces. If not we would not have been so humilated by the red army - oil refinery incident in Singapore in 1974. It was after that incident which totally humilated our government and push the need for such a specialized units. Of course all good things take time to refine. You don't just sew a piece of "special force" patch on uniform and that it ! It take years to totally refine the training and source for equipment and build up the expertise.
I would only say that we truely have special forces only in the 80s that is when we make greater advance toward building what is truely call special forces, in which see special equip & trainings.
