  Can RSAF F-5EII fire AIM 120??? Anybody know the answer?

  It was reported that the Chilean F-5 which were upgraded by the Israeli have the ability to fire AIM-120.
  
  Since our F-5 were too upgraded in the similar fashion by the Israeli, it should be.
  
  BTW, the upgraded F-5E is called F-5S for the single seat, double seat version is the F-5T.

  I think it has to do with the pylon wiring.....if it's Mil-Std 1760 it can interface with and fire most digital smart weapons.

  I can confirm that F-5S are AIM-120 compatible.

  what they r saying is the radar is compatible to fire amraams, am i right..
  well as far as i know, our F5s can only carry Sidewinders.. nothing else.

  Yes, you are right. So far AIM-120C only for the F-16C Blk 52, but F-5s can fire it too if the need arises. Fitted for but not with concept. Anyone knows RSAF uses which model for the AIM-120? C3/5/7?

  C2 & C5 IIRC.
  
  If I remember correctly from an article, if you r not having BVR AAM on it, then why the need to upgrade to a longer range radar???
  
  The old radar can fire WVR AAM just as well.

  I'm wondering why don't we upgraded our F-16A/B instead of upgrading our F-5EII and give our F-16A/B to Thailand .We r keeping a older airframe and giving away a newer airframe.Is it wise to do that?

  I think it's because there isn't the economy of scale to just do so for 7 kites though they could get some more from AMARC. Then you have to re-life the airframe......more work but still ok if there's enough of them.
  
  The F-5S maybe an older plane but the avionics within is far better than the F-16A/Bs and probably alot easier to upgrade especially when ST-Aero worked on the OFP software.
  
  Also this plane is alot stealthier than the F-16s. I'm guessing F-5E's RCS and the visual plus heat signature is alot smaller.
  
  With a IRST it's a stealth fighter if you apply the RAM paint here and there.

  That's very interesting, and I believe that our F-5S has a different nose job as compared to the original F5 series.It's a good, sturdy plane.Shaped like an interceptor.
