Which one of these Civil War generals do you prefer more. Personally,I respect Lee a lot more than Grant. Great general. Moral guy too. Only took arms against the Union coz of his homestate.(erm...sorry if inappropriate place to post this)

But between Lee and Grant, it is a bit hard to say.... as there is always tales that romantises Lee while villianise Grant(pardon the spelling) ..... As Lee is loyal to his state.. Grant is loyal to his country....As Lee is caring towards his men, Grant is also devoted to his family(writing recollection to earn money for his debt ridden family on his deathbed.. die soon after he finish writing) who is a better man? It is hard to say....
Who is a better general? Lee is a good strategist who but gambles big on one occassion and loses(hard to say he actually lose...since loss was almost the same...for both side)... It is just sad that he is on a side that can hardly afford any loses or engaged in any attrition war... else the outcome might be really different
Grant was a strong-willed man who excels especially in the later part of the war as it becomes attritional to both side...He is willing to take sacrifices and do whatever is needed to achieve his operational/strategic goal... coupled with a willing government who can afford to bleed... he truely excels
Guess I only can say that both are good players/actors in what they are doing/or life-role they are playing.... but only Grant has found the right partner......
Strategic-wise, I'd say Lee was a more capable general given that he managed to hold out with less manpower available to him while Grant fought a war of attrition. Had the odds been stacked evenly, the South may even have won the war.
The Chinaman Robert Lee was the greater general. Who said all Chinese immigrants to the USA were railway or laundry shop workers...JUST KIDDING!!!!!
In terms of image, Lee is better. He answered the call to arms when Virginia broke away even though he could have remained in the Union army. His home state came first. Besides, Lee was the general in the outgunned, outnumbered 'Rebel' army. That certainly help buid up the legend around him.
Let's not forget that Grant made a lousy president after the war...
