Rucksacks

  Guys,
  
  We're working on a new rucksack design when it occured to me that I have not seen an SAF issued rucksack since the early 80s. What are you guys issued these days? Anyone got a pix 'cos I'm curios as hell.
  
  Are you allowed to buy and use non issued ones?
  
  I hope at the very least the SBOs have been upgraded.

  This is the new SAR 21 MMS with Picatinny 1913-Spec Rail, and a floating red dot reflex sight.Not sure if it's made by Trijcon or not.The elbow guards are part of the ACMS (Advanced Combatman System).The new LBV aka SBO has a hydration system and MOLLE attachment clips for expansion if I'm not wrong.

  Just to note that only the Guards, Commandos, a few if the SIRs(6SIR especially) have bene issued with this new LBV.The rifle is not out yet.The other units are still using the old SBO and the 1st Gen SAR 21 or even M16/AR-15.

  LOL...think that the ACMS equipped SAR21s will take a long time to be integrated into the units man.Each set-up is perhaps worth a couple thousand already.Imagine the NSFs who will use them,the reservists who have to go through conversion course to learn how to shoot them...The mere figures of training and equipment will go into tens of millions man.

  By US standards, having a private contractor train an individual (in a group) for the day is about US$125, so you figure us reservists alone would cost a bleeding fortune.

  lazer: are you sure it's a red-dot sight? it looks more like a scope, and what's that thing attached forward of that eyepiece? looks like some kind of LAM?
  
  and i noticed that the LBV has a plastic insert on the left shoulder pad for the cards. could it be 'covered' for tactical purposes?
  
  someone correct me but are you still issued those backpacks with the 2 pockets by the side? it feels 'plastic-ky'..
  
  i-shot: what's the primary use of the backpack? 3-day? long haul? combat? modular (i dig those man.. )?

  Depends really. Some for deployment.......patrol......mission specific, etc.
  
  During my time, we were simply issued one rucksack that we used for almost everything. These days, I noticed the guys (stateside) have 2 or 3 different ones, of course, at least one is issued and the others are personal purchases
