yep we sh0uld have l0tsa variants 0f the terrex but i w0nder when they'll be assi9bned t0 unitsOriginally posted by tankee1981:I don't see why not! We must come out with more variants though.I don't think the Terrex will be used like the Styrker in SAF. This is because we are largely considered a defensive force so we have little need to create Styrker-like battalions in Singapore unless we get some for the RDF(Rapid Deployment Force). By the way the website is very good, have lots of pictures and specifications of the different variants.![]()

since it's n0t a defencive f0rce? then wad's it spp0sed 2 be?Originally posted by sg1960:Hi tankee1981,
Just an expression of surprise at your posting saying SG is a defensive force esp. coming from you - an "old bird "
A Defensive force is like the Swiss Armed Force whose role is to react to attacks / invasions.
Singapore Armed Force is meant to be a NEVER defensive force.
Since the early days, SAF have being planning operations away from Singapore proper.
“ Mersing Line “ is most well known example in this aspect.

What I am refering to is the difference between the needs of the US military and SAF . The US are highly interventionist as shown in the recent wars in Afganistan,Iraq and probably Iran next. They have requirement for a light(able to be transported by C130),versatile(hence the many variants of the Stryker) and with reasonable fire power(the MGS variant even have a 105mm gun!).
What the SAF requires is definitely not that, at least not at the moment(maybe we going for UN peace-keeping missions in future) and on such massive scale.
Rockhound, you are right, the SAF defends SG by attacking(preemptive strikes). Which is why i said that the SAF is largely considered as a defensive force as we are unlike the Swiss. We only attack preemptively when we are directly threatened.
Therefore I said that maybe the SAF will procure at most a few(not for a few battallions) for the RDF due to possible future UN missions. Please refer to my original post ,then you will understand my explanation here. Thanks

It was the mid 80s'. The Israeli president and the Catholic Pope visited Singapore within a week of each other. The Malaysians protested - burned our flags, threatened to walk across the causeway, cut/poison our water supply, jihad against us, etc, etc, etc.Originally posted by wonderamazement:anyway my hist0ry teacher t0ld my class that is was s0mewhere in the 1980s durin9 0ur nati0nal day and there were s0me s0rt 0f israeli dele9ates that came here and malaysia accused us 0f bein anti-muslim 0r s0me s0rt and they sta9ed an invasi0n excercise and he said that 0ur arm0ured units were ready and waitin9
