We've seen that too many times in our past army days..Nothing new about it.Guess somethings are hard to change..Originally posted by Sardaukar:Having gone through BMT,I've had a few experiences, and one of them is the double standard in treatment among the companies. There are 2 types of coys, the 'scholar and white horse' coys and the others.
In my batch, the 59th Leadership BMT batch as well as the first batch serving 2 year NS,Hawk coy received the best treatment among all the coys, due to the Defence Ministers son Teo Chee Hean being inside the coy as well as it being filled with scholars.
I was in Charlie(Cougar) coy for my BMT,and we had an MPs son inside our coy,but he was treated no differently from the rest.Evidently, some white horses are whiter than others.
While I may have no direct evidence, there was certainly enough anecdotal evidence as well as witnesses to the treatment Hawk coy received.I along with several Charlie coy recruits were attached to Hawk coy for our range, and the standard of treatment meted out to them was considered quite good. They had access to television on the 1st day of their range and were able to watch movies throughout the 2nd day of their range.
Similarly, for the 24 km graduation march, their coy packed newspapers into their field packs instead of standard items. However, the SSM of BMTC 1,the 2IC of the School told them to repack it with standard items, which they did, resulting in them delaying the other 4 coys going for the march(Charlie,Foxtrot,Bronco,Jaguar) for up to an hour.
Them being offered a standard of welfare far in excess of other coys is systematically unfair to all others, and was something that was accepted with resignation, but is something I wish to highlight for general knowledge of this community.
This sort of double standard certainly affects our morale and should be changed. While the OC and CSM often determine what standard of welfare the coy gets, there should be general welfare rules or guidelines that CSMs and OCs should abide by governing the standard of welfare given to their trainees.

My A level friend was right. Ppl like you are calculative. Its the ITE grads who value brotherhood more than their life. These are the ppl who would die for their friends unlike you. I think I better be wary of ppl like you in the army.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:In wartime , those white horses will be the last to die, hiding in a bunker..

Hmm.. like a joke I heard last time. There are 2 type of officer. The one that is willing to risk his life for his country and the one that is willing to risk your life for his country.Originally posted by zenden9:Aiyo! Then I for one wouln't want you in my platoon or in my company for that matter when a war breaks out.You can go and fuck off and hide in a hole while your comrades die to save your worthless hide, because they value honour and the bonds of friendship they have with those in their unit.Originally posted by SMAPLionHeart:In wartime , those white horses will be the last to die, hiding in a bunker..

You are wrong. The people we are actually protecting are the fat-ass foreign talent and whitehorse MPs' children. Our lives (& that of our family) are worthless. We made the sacrifices, but had the government actually shown us any recognition? Heck, they'd even side against us in event of industrial disputes. Remember the Alpa-S case? The pilots who do their reservist duties are thrown to the dogs. What's the point of fighting for our country when the test comes if it turns a blind eye to our contributions during peacetime?Originally posted by Sardaukar:When you serve in the SAF,you aren't fighting for those asses. You're fighting to keep your family and friends safe, risking your own life to save others you don't know.I view my NS as contributing to the overall peace and security my family enjoys, and any suffering and lack of freedom endured for the sake of friends and family is something that should be honoured or at least given a minimum of respect.
During wartime,I don't need a liability like you fighting by my side.Serve part of your NS first then ask yourself whether or not there are some tangible and intangible things worth fighting for, like the safety of your platoonmates. You need not necessarily have to serve with the defence of people whom you consider worthless in your mind.
I think most people would fight for their friends and family.SMAP was trying to say this point by using the example of not being willing to die for the whitehorses to illustrate.Originally posted by Sardaukar:Then I for one wouln't want you in my platoon or in my company for that matter when a war breaks out.You can go and fuck off and hide in a hole while your comrades die to save your worthless hide, because they value honour and the bonds of friendship they have with those in their unit.

People, i believe you all have misunderstood me, what i mean is that , i wouldn't protect any of the white horses , but i would gladly protect my peasant friends...Originally posted by Sardaukar:Then I for one wouln't want you in my platoon or in my company for that matter when a war breaks out.You can go and fuck off and hide in a hole while your comrades die to save your worthless hide, because they value honour and the bonds of friendship they have with those in their unit.
