I am thinking about the feasibility of having midget subs for our Navy Divers to carry out covert missions. Firstly, they will greatly increase the mobility and survival rate of the teams. They can be launched from a mother ship(maybe a modified one from our large merchant navy) or from a specially modified Challenger class sub. This way they can be launched further away from the enemy coast, maybe even with the mother ship or sub in the safety of international waters.
The midget sub will also enable them to carry out missions with longer durations and greater flexibility as the teams will arrive at their objective relatively fresh. Additional weapons, ammo, food and water can also be stored in the sub.
The midget sub can even be armed with one or two small torpedoes/mines for covert attack roles or self-defence.
We can disguise them as Deep Sea Rescue Vehicles(DSRV) or rather have DSRV with dual roles during peace time to avoid unnecessary protests from our neighbours. Of course,if the idea is feasible this project should be kept tightly under warps due to its sensitivity.
What are your views on this matter? I am intrested if the RSN have any defences against such threats. I will like to hear from RSN personnel or even better Navy Divers for their comments. Thanks.
