hell, what we should do is cooperate with another country and built and design to plane to our exact need insead of relying on others( hopefully boeing?) Could we even start to build planes under license, hate to rely on other country too much...if got blockage then how? die liao...no more spare parts for planes or get new planes...but seriously...i doubt the gov will consider it lor...

just my humble opinion,if singapore finalised rafale over F-15T. This directly gives us / open up wider choice of european weaponary. Storm shadow stand-off cruise missile, Mica etc. These are sophisticated hardware that we are required to BEG from the United States.
Furthermore, the french government is supporting dassult aviation finanically. Such funding pave the way for more sophisticated version of Rafale, significantly allowing the development of AESA system by european's prime electronic defence company, Thale Group.
EVEN THEIR PRESIDENT CHAIRC BECAME THEIR PROMOTOR.
Looks like dassult-aviation is really desperate. Can chop chop chop!!! them

well, i love the rafale too. But besides all the goodies that they are giving out, you must take into account the cost factor. Does anybody know the price tag for the Rafale vs Eagle? Even with the Euro dollar being so high with a lower price tag, it should be competitive or if they are really desperate, cut the price or agree to a lower pegged rate for the sale (it has been done in many international deals).
I loved the Eagle but as someone pointed out, Rafale is 4th Gen. As an analogy, I would rather buy a latest version car versus a great old reliable vehicle. The new planes would have incorporated most of the lessons learnt plus most of the new russian planes would have been designed to defeat American planes esp F15s since it was the core of American air power during the cold war (!) period.

Haha... I saw the news in today's papers ... rafale and F15 in the final running ... two thumbs up
I'm glad the military planners have enough common sense not to go for the typhoon pipe dream. 600 aircraft have been ordered but not a single one in font line service says a lot abt how good the aircraft is.
But with the Rafale and F15T .. my analysis as follows.
It shows that they still want the Rafale despite all the scandals .. it meets the requirements of SAF:
1) An affordable Aircraft
2) Highly Agile and Advance platform
3) Able to exploit technologies
For the F15T .. now thats something new. The Rafale system is good and fits our requirements but I suspect they are also seriously considering the F15T, if(and it's a big if) there is a policy change on the americans side giving us as competitive terms as what the french are offering as to the above points 1 & especially points 3 .. they may go for the F15T.
So in other words I think Rafale is a second best option, an arm twister for the yanks. If the yanks give in we take the F15 but if they are stubborn & don't want to budge on point 1 & 3 .. we will tell them to go to hell & pick the rafale.
At this point I have to say Rafale has very high chance unless a miracle happened. -
