Umm.... tell ya what--let me unload a single 5.56 mm 55 gr. FMJ-BT projectile with a muzzle velocity of 2850 fps at you through my M4, and we'll see about that injury part!Originally posted by casshern:i heard the m4 is not meant to kill but to injure only...cos the m4 used in spec ops if hit friendly or innocent at least wouldn't be that bad.
Its possible...just that the length is shorter lor...and the buttstock has to be extended...will end up gripping the tip of the barrel insteadOriginally posted by Gordonator:is it possible to do M16 rifle drills with the M4? for instance stand in 'sir di ya' position and 'lu so sen jia ta', 'ho ma se jia ta' etc?![]()
Absolute nonsense. Please tell me where you heard these falsehoods from.Originally posted by casshern:i heard the m4 is not meant to kill but to injure only...cos the m4 used in spec ops if hit friendly or innocent at least wouldn't be that bad.
m16 on the other hand is more of shoot to kill.i dunno but i think its on the barrel differences.
they're just for different uses in the field..>.<Originally posted by poor clt:can anyone please give the difference between them other than those listed below? are the components all the same? e.g buffer spring
1.) lenght
2.) weight
3.) the butt

Its the round that kills. not the weapon. If u put a rubber bullet in m16, then m16 cannot kill?? m4 n m16 uses 5.56, same round. Think you meant the round they use for m4. for such ops, they use fargment rds. or dunno what u call them. those that breaks into fragment within the body it enters. and will not exit the body, thus reducing the chance of hitting innocent or friendly forces.Originally posted by casshern:i heard the m4 is not meant to kill but to injure only...cos the m4 used in spec ops if hit friendly or innocent at least wouldn't be that bad.also the m4 is more compact, making it more suitable for CQC

tat time i at sispec saw some spec doing drill with SAR21 for dunno wat parade.scream and scream non stop at the parade square.but they sound liek chickens..
I always thought FMJ-full metal jacket was the norm since the late 70's?? the 5.56 or M193 is definately full metal jackets, the 'others' are more big bore (for hunting) of left over for replica ammo etc. DUH!Originally posted by Raptor937:Even M193 FMJ 55gr 5.56mm rounds.
And why the devil would a soldier want to go into battle knowing that weapon he's carrying is designed only to injure? It's not as if he's a cop.Originally posted by casshern:i heard the m4 is not meant to kill but to injure only...cos the m4 used in spec ops if hit friendly or innocent at least wouldn't be that bad.also the m4 is more compact, making it more suitable for CQC
I agree. Anyway have you seen guys hitting fig 12 targets consecutively at 500m using M4 with iron sight? I have.Originally posted by Gedanken:And why the devil would a soldier want to go into battle knowing that weapon he's carrying is designed only to injure? It's not as if he's a cop.
Can'y say I've seen the M4 In action with my own two eyes. It goes out to 500m? That's not bad.Originally posted by crosshairs:I agree. Anyway have you seen guys hitting fig 12 targets consecutively at 500m using M4 with iron sight? I have.
One thing you probably might notice about the recoiling action of an M4. It's comparatively less cushioned than M16. Might be due to the weight, might be due to the shorter recoil spring (I'd go for the former, because I have this theory that the recoild spring assembly does nothing other than to reload sebsequent rounds).
The proper classification is the M-16 carbine (at least used by the SAF). Dun think many carbines in use now, since the SAR-21 replaces it...at least for scouts. For tankees, I'm not too sure...anyone care to confirm it?Originally posted by one-niner:ermm a rifle newbie..is the SAF carbine used by the scouts, tankees also known as the M4 or just a M16 carbine ?
Nope - the M4 incorporates the key developments that came with the M16A2, namely a barrel with one-turn-in-7-inches rifling (as opposed to one turn in 12 for the M16A1), and the M855 round to go with the new rifling. The new rifling spins the projectile faster, making for higher accuracy.Originally posted by one-niner:ermm a rifle newbie..is the SAF carbine used by the scouts, tankees also known as the M4 or just a M16 carbine ?
Hmm alright ..so does our SAR 21 have similar specs with the M4 in terms of rifling and the type of rounds to go with it ? Sorry for the rather basic questions as all i ask for is a rifle that does its job of killing an enemy with minmial rnds to accomplish my mission.Originally posted by Gedanken:Nope - the M4 incorporates the key developments that came with the M16A2, namely a barrel with one-turn-in-7-inches rifling (as opposed to one turn in 12 for the M16A1), and the M855 round to go with the new rifling. The carbines used by scouts etc. were the older models with the 1:12 rifling and the M193 round.
