Hey, Spore commando standards are quite top notch, ok? You should dig more and find out about them before dismissing them as second-rate. Just that their achievements are not well documented in the public arena. FFL is an instrument to carry out foreign policy and military objective that could arouse negative french domestic opinion.
Put it straightly, the FFL soldier's are expendeble.
If you hate your country Singapore, just because of the fact that there are restrictions towards your citizenship. Then i suggest that the Legione is not a place for you. You are not the kind of people that the Legione will want. The Legione don't need some smart alec Singaporean who ask questions and comment.
The Legione needs people who are willing to die for France anytime.
So what if you can get a French citizenship, if thats the reason you give for the officer who interview you on why you want to be a legionnaire, they will reject you.
The Legione is not as honourable as it may seems, Legion are known to have committed the worse of the war crimes France had committed. One thing, the Legione, although participated in many campaigns, lost almost all.
Forget about whatever perks you think that the Legione can give you, cause the only thing you should expect from the Legione is to die with honour for France. -

I want to join the Legion because it is a chance of starting life anew. For the 5 years i am in, the legion will be my family, and my life will revolve around the legion. I am also a hopeless romantic.
But like i said, i have already dropped the idea. Nevertheless, i started this thread so that we can have a meaningful discussion on one of the most fascinating armies in the world today. Let's keep it a meaningful discussion and not start any e-cock waving.
Btw, I do not think much blame can be imputed to the Legion for those losses. The fact is France has lost most of its campaign. I am gg to go a little offtopic here but you guys should try typing "french military victories" into Google (w/o the "" ) and then click 'Im Feeling Lucky'.

They always look top notch on the surface, what i'm trying to say is has the Singapore Commando seen any action at all or had they participated in any war campaign like desert storm? The only one that i can remember of is one which involved SOF in that hijacked plane at Changi airport, but wait that's not even real action that i'd consider, coz the terrorists on that SQ flight were poorly armed. Just to clear a few things up here:
Are Commandos combat-tested in the way, say, the 101st Airborne is? Nope, and God willing, we will never have to be in that position. No real soldier ever spoils for a fight - we're here as a defence force, and as long as nobody starts anything, there really isn't a problem, is there?
Second, who said anything about black ops? Need I point out the distinction between black ops and the information that is otherwise covered by the Official Secrets Act?
Third, yes, it's well-known that the four poor Pakistanis weren't well armed. I'm sorry if that doesn't satisfy the more bloodthirsty among us - perhaps we should get a casting director to get some really nasty bad guys the next time?
Finally, there needn't be any surprise about someone like me revealing my identity. From the photo, you can see that I'm already past my reservist use-by date. I haven't breached the OSA in any way, shape or form, and even if I did, my information's too out-of-date to be useful to anyone seeking to do Singapore harm.
