I mean keeping in line with the history of the SAS being a "Royal" regiment..Originally posted by CenturionMBT:we are not royal lah . . .we republic . . . .
Hey, Spore commando standards are quite top notch, ok? You should dig more and find out about them before dismissing them as second-rate. Just that their achievements are not well documented in the public arena. Do you know that some have been to the Thai border with Burma (or was it Cambodia?) and got granades thrown at them from the other side?Originally posted by tvdog:Well, Mr SG Cdo, really shouldn't knock the FFL cos at least they have a long tradition of soldiering and constantly being in action.
I am not comparing the FFL to the SAS or the Green Beret "lads" you say you know.
Why should I?
I am comparing them to you, Mr SG Cdo.

Sigh.....
WHERE, DEAR BOY, DID YOU GET THE IDEA I WAS DISMISSING THE STANDARDS OF ANY COMMANDO FORCE, MUCH LESS OUR OWN?
GET OFF THIS TIRESOME TOPIC, ITS BEEN BLOWN WAY OUT OF PROPORTION ALREADY.
But thank you for sharing this information with us about our Cdo having "granades" thrown at them at the "Thai border with Burma (or was it Cambodia?)".
go away. (see, all small letters.)Originally posted by LazerLordz:Those CAPS are pretty rude.What sin did he commit to merit this?![]()
I'll just come in here and say that Ged is an ok guy.He's not the type to lie.Originally posted by tvdog:Man, you are really clutching at straws to stoop to such a low attack tactics.
You should stick to the topic. FFL.
Using my acronym TVDOG to try and throw the debate... tsk tsk you sound desperate and childish.
I don't know what tough is. I'm just an infantryman. Anyone tougher than me is tough enough. But for you it's a different case.
You are here openly claiming to be a SAF commando. You scared shxt out of a former Legionnaire. And you have important friends in the SAS and Green Beret.
The question here is not how tough the Legion is compared to SAS etc. The question is are you really as tough as you say you are?
he has a home in marseille...Originally posted by John Ching:Please read the following news in the following link, it might help to answer some of the questions on the topic here;

No, I'm not on WAFF.Originally posted by Sardaukar:I'll just come in here and say that Ged is an ok guy.He's not the type to lie.
@Tvdog
Are you the same TVdog on WAFF?if you are,then I go by the alias Manthor over there.
Hmm..so why do people join up with the FFL?For the citizenship?The pay?(which is not much)..or the urge to have a purpose in life or to die with one?I'm not dissing the brave Legionaires but there's a lot of doubts in the main aim of joining the FFL.Originally posted by zquek:FFL is an instrument to carry out foreign policy and military objective that could arouse negative french domestic opinion.
Put it straightly, the FFL soldier's are expendeble.
If you hate your country Singapore, just because of the fact that there are restrictions towards your citizenship. Then i suggest that the Legione is not a place for you. You are not the kind of people that the Legione will want. The Legione don't need some smart alec Singaporean who ask questions and comment.
The Legione needs people who are willing to die for France anytime.
So what if you can get a French citizenship, if thats the reason you give for the officer who interview you on why you want to be a legionnaire, they will reject you.
The Legione is not as honourable as it may seems, Legion are known to have committed the worse of the war crimes France had committed. One thing, the Legione, although participated in many campaigns, lost almost all.
Forget about whatever perks you think that the Legione can give you, cause the only thing you should expect from the Legione is to die with honour for France.
I want to join the Legion because it is a chance of starting life anew. For the 5 years i am in, the legion will be my family, and my life will revolve around the legion. The Legion also promises ample opportunity to go on OPs, and imo, it is a great way to start a military career.Originally posted by zquek:FFL is an instrument to carry out foreign policy and military objective that could arouse negative french domestic opinion.

They always look top notch on the surface, what i'm trying to say is has the Singapore Commando seen any action at all or had they participated in any war campaign like desert storm? The only one that i can remember of is one which involved SOF in that hijacked plane at Changi airport, but wait that's not even real action that i'd consider, coz the terrorists on that SQ flight were poorly armed. Oh by the way top notch indeed for cheating in IPPT scores and lost the best unit contention to Guards....what a joke!Originally posted by Xprobe:Hey, Spore commando standards are quite top notch, ok? black ops are meant for nobody else to know about. so who's to say if they've ever participated in any real action? never speak too soon about things u can't prove or disprove.Originally posted by jtradical31:They always look top notch on the surface, what i'm trying to say is has the Singapore Commando seen any action at all or had they participated in any war campaign like desert storm? Even if there were any black ops, it's not carried out and will never be seconded to your puny commandos....its always carried out by another group, i know enough to know what i'm saying here.Originally posted by HENG@:black ops are meant for nobody else to know about. so who's to say if they've ever participated in any real action? never speak too soon about things u can't prove or disprove.
that means u've already said too much.Originally posted by jtradical31:Even if there were any black ops, it's not carried out and will never be seconded to your puny commandos....its always carried out by another group, i know enough to know what i'm saying here.

im happy u actually realise that.Originally posted by jtradical31:I probably have spoken too much....
sorry mate. have to say i used "black ops" loosely to mean the missions which are not supposed to be revealed to public. i dunno wot he took its meaning for tho.Originally posted by Gedanken:Oh dear - is this still carrying on?
Just to clear a few things up here:
Are Commandos combat-tested in the way, say, the 101st Airborne is? Nope, and God willing, we will never have to be in that position. No real soldier ever spoils for a fight - we're here as a defence force, and as long as nobody starts anything, there really isn't a problem, is there?
Second, who said anything about black ops? Need I point out the distinction between black ops and the information that is otherwise covered by the Official Secrets Act?
Finally, there needn't be any surprise about someone like me revealing my identity. From the photo, you can see that I'm already past my reservist use-by date. I haven't breached the OSA in any way, shape or form, and even if I did, my information's too out-of-date to be useful to anyone seeking to do Singapore harm.
I hope that addresses all of the issues raised.
