I finally understood the importance of NS....I apppreciate it very much. Singapore is surrounded by nations whose culture are very much different from that of singapore (Think of Malay, Chinese, Indian...etc). And most of this particular group of people (I do not want to name them out of respect for those who, lived and served this country here) hated us with all their guts....just think of it....if war breaks out and these group of people triumph, I won't not dare to imagine what will happen to our people. They will have not understood geneva laws or whatsoever, they will not hesistate to do the unthinkable. I am sure they will not hesistate to kill as many of our people as possible. When I went on to serve NS, I will know what I did was for my family, my friends and existence of our people, not just our country,we must not drop our weapons in face of the enemy, we have nowhere to flee (Having Surrounded on a piece of island) you drop ur gun ur family will die, u will die nonetheless, no more less complicated than those genocides commited out of hatred for races, social status.... around the world. NS is just not only about defending our country, it's about your own family, friends, wifes, spouses. Thank you that's all I have to say. Pax Vobiscvm

Call me idealistic, but how about befriending people who live in those countries and understanding them better - instead of thinking they are out for our blood and treating them with suspicion?

think about it... how many malaysians die die rush to singapor to work... and how many indonesians die die try to sneak into singapore.... as illegals?
