Can SAR 21 replace M16 in US Army?

Since the trigger is located some distance ahead of the firing chamber, the trigger mechanism connects to the sear via a long bar or pushrod. This introduces an element of slop into the operation of the fire control group, especially if the bar or rod flexes during movement.
In an AR-15's FCG, the trigger and sear are the same part. No bars or rods are required to transfer movement; trigger take-up and overtravel remain predictable and consistent from shot to shot.

YEah! MG is right ... all the bullpup I have tried have mushy trigger.. was curious about the bulpup sniper rifle like the Wather WA2000! wonder if they have desend trigger needed for a sniper rifle.
So far the AUG, Valmet 82 and the Bushmaster M17S... the trigger is unimressive!
I guess the SAR21 isnt that great in the trigger.... any ideas on the SA-80 and FN-2000???

From what I've gathered the SAR 21's trigger mechanism is different from other bullpup rifles in the market. Instead of using a flexible rod or similar mechanism used in some bullpup designs that result in a heavy and sluggish trigger pull, the SAR21 uses a stiff sliding plate which I believe should solve the problem.
I've not gotten the chance to handle other bullpup rifles, however my rather limited experience with the SAR21 has been rather good. -
I tried SAR 21 few years ago in live rounds (in Trench)and recently in Marina S. in blank rds.
The trigger is easy and the rebounce is light.Have you seen the reactions from the kids and even over 50 aunies .They could accept it!If they shoot others rifle,i think they would give up shooting after three rds. -

The U.S. Army ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000, on behalf of the Program Manager for Soldier Weapons (PM-SW), has a requirement for a non developmental family of weapons that are capable of firing U.S. standard M855 and M856 ammunition.
The family consists of a Carbine, Special Compact (SC), Designated Marksman (DM), and Light Machine Gun (LMG) weapon systems.
This endeavor will be conducted in three phases consisting of a System Design and Development (SDD) Phase, a Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) Phase and a Full Rate Production (FRP) PhaseThe purpose of this Amendment is to CANCEL Solicitation W15QKN-05-R-0449, OICW Increment One.
This action has been taken in order for the Army to reevaluate its priorites for small caliber weapons, and to incorporate emerging requirements identified during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Government will also incorporate studies looking into current capability gaps during said reevaluation.This isn't unexpected, given the backsliding over the past year or so after it appeared that the XM8 might be on fast track. If the "said reevaluation" includes a long hard look at the 5.56, this will probably all be worth it.

Looks like the Marines and SOCOM, who adopted the M16A4 and the FN-SCAR (respectively) despite initial interest in the XM8, made good calls.
