Improved Lethality
The SSW has a built-in miniaturised FCS for better accuracy, reliability and improved probability of a first time hit. The FCS features advanced electronics to ensure quick target acquisition and accurate delivery of fire. It helps the user to compute the range using a laser range finder, and programmes ammunition quickly and accurately. It is designed with an automatic ammunition recognition device to help overcome any human errors that might compromise safety and reliability.
In its grenade launcher mode, ST Kinetics' SSW fires existing 40mm low velocity and a new medium velocity round, ABM and conventional grenades. Medium velocity rounds offer users a longer range. Coupled with an FCS, it also offers increased accuracy. This offers an unprecedented lethality in personal defence weapons.
With an ABM capability built into a handheld system, soldiers are now equipped with greater lethality to overcome targets located in areas such as rooftops or windows beyond the reaches of conventional ammunition. The ABM is particularly effective where targets are situated in difficult or closed terrain such as bunkers and caves, as evidenced in recent world conflicts.
With its capacity for four ready 40mm rounds in the SSW, soldiers can now operate with increased confidence knowing that they can engage their targets quickly and effectively without needing to re-load after each shot. The SSW offers a high rate of grenade fire, and can operate in a single shot or semi-automatic mode for a more permanent and lethal effect. This is a crucial feature for fleeting targets in urban warfare.
In grenade launcher mode, the SSW has an effective range of up to 500m, depending on the type of ammunition selected.
Personal Defence Weapon
As a personal defence weapon, the SSW is customised for smaller and more powerful PDW ammunition such as 5.7mm. It can also be configured for 4.6mm PDW calibre, according to the customer's requirements. It comes with a 20 round magazine, and can engage targets of up to 200m.
Designed to combat the demands of urban warfare, ST Kinetics' SSW offers a lethal 2-in-1 combination, packed into a light weight, compact and ergonomic design.
Family of Weapons Concept
The SSW is built on a family of weapons concept for maximum commonality in terms of logistics and maintenance. Future variants could include a semi automatic grenade launcher using a box magazine combined with a PDW, or simply a semi automatic grenade launcher without a PDW. Designs are currently on the drawing board, and a first technical demostrator of the standard SSW is expected to be ready in 3 to 4 years' time.

3.I prefer SSW,looks more easy to handle.I can bet one coffee with u that SSW can be field earlier than XM28.Limited to 2 coffee.
4.We have 40mm Air Bursting Munition System (ABMS) of 33 kg in operation.Our SAR 21 is a very good base to form SSW.
The 40mm x4 is just mated with the rifle.Does US has ABMS?

side notes, if you can deflect of a blaster bolt using a lightsaber, then a bullet is nothing(just melt it) because the velocity of a blaster blot is a few times(Base on a star wars novel, forgot the exact velocity liao) that of a bullet.

More Singaporean under estimate the technical capability of Sg than over estimate.Our products in fact are comparable to the most advanced one.In some
cases,we may be slightly ahead of them.
Take OICW XM 29 as example. Our SAW ,though prototype completed in 2003, may be a replacement of it. Both of them comprises a rifle and a grenade launcher

The recoil on its own is very strong.It is unlikely that it can improve to a satisfactory level unless the basic design of mechanism is changed.

The overall performance is most likely affected by the jumping of rifle portion.

ST has not shown hand held stand alnoe GL .However,ST has much experience in GL.eg 40mm Air Bursting Munition System (ABMS)When the air-burst mode is selected, the rounds can also be programmed to fire a single round, multiple bursts at the same point, or a "string-of-pearls": multi-round-burst at set intervals. It also enables the engagement of targets without premature detonation, unlike conventional rounds, where detonation may occur upon contact with foliage. The innovative use of dense preformed tungsten spheres improves lethality against body armour.
Note the tungsten balls explodes in cone shape.Keep the shooter safe.

Minneapolis, June 22, 2005 – Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) and the U.S. Army’s Project Manager-Soldier Weapons successfully demonstrated the XM25 advanced airbursting weapon system with developmental ammunition at the International Infantry & Joint Services Small Arms Systems Annual Symposium on May 19, 2005.
The target for the first shot was a small window located approximately 170 meters down range. After exiting the chamber, the round flew right through the target and detonated inside the virtual room. The next four shots in the demonstration sequence also successfully engaged targets at ranges approaching 500 meters. The demonstration was the latest in an on-going series of successful field tests for the XM25. It was designed to simulate a realistic urban combat challenge and the XM25 met all test objectives.
When fielded, the XM25 will fire a High Explosive (HE), air bursting 25mm round capable of defeating an enemy behind a wall, inside a building or in a foxhole. The advanced design allows the operator to program the round so that it flies to the target and detonates at a precise point in the air. It does not require impact to detonate.

The Army announced today it temporarily suspended the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the acquisition of a new family of small weapons - Objective Individual Combat Weapon Increment 1 (OICW-1) - in order to incorporate joint requirements. The Army's proposal has received interest from the other military services, and is further supported by several internal reviews reinforcing the increase in the potential for joint use.
Congressional notification has been made and today's suspension of the program allows joint requirements to be viewed and incorporated through the Joint Capability and Integration and Development System process, which will occur immediately. Original solicitation started May 11, 2005, and is temporarily suspended effective July 19, 2005, until the Joint Requirements Oversight Committee (JROC) convenes, which is currently scheduled for early September.
Upon the JROC's completion, the committee will issue a memorandum, which incorporates any new joint OICW-1 requirements. The RFP will be amended accordingly, and issued with a revised effective date for receipt of proposals.
OICW-1 is comprised of a family of small arms weapons that consists of a carbine, special compact, designated marksman, and light machine gun weapon systems. These weapons are intended to replace the M4 carbine, the M16 rifle, the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and selected M9 pistols. The capabilities development document calls for a family of weapons that possess a high degree of commonality, enhanced capabilities, and much higher reliability than our current weapons.

It uses 5.7mm rounds?
Ok... I'm not exactly a weapons expert... but assuming that it gets integrated into the SAF, won't using the SSW cause more logistical headaches? I mean, you need to supply 5.56mm to normal troops, and 5.7mm rounds to SSW troops.
Can someone clarify the justification for using 5.7mm rounds?
