No rollover of leave for NSF enlisted post-Dec 2004

a new Manpower Directive has been issued on 1st Jun by Joint PMCs regarding the leave scheme for Full-Time NSFs who had been enlisted from December 2004, i.e. the batch who will serve only 2 years of National Service regardless of their education qualifications.
with immediate effect, this group of soldiers will no longer be allowed to bring forward any accumulated leave which they are entitled to for one calender year to the next calender year. any unclaimed leave will be forfeited at the end of the calender year.
note that this does not affect soldiers who are enlisted prior to December 2004 and hence not affected by the revised National Service. this group of soldiers will continue to be able to bring forward any accumulated leave which they are entitled for a particular one calender year to the next calender year.
all Chief Clerks have been reminded to ensure that no NSFs will have forfeit their leave due to oversight. this is because the leaves of NSFs cannot be sold back to MINDEF or exchanged for cash, as NSFs are drawing an allowance, not pay. -

if this directive is not in effect: if u are enlisted in like say mar '05, u will ord in mar '07, but u would have passed thru 3 calender yrs (2005+2006+2007), so the leave given to u in 2005 (~12 days) cannot be used when u wan to clear leave in 2007.
with the directive in effect: u have to clear your leave by the end of the calender year, i.e. take 12 days within 2005, 14 days within 2006 & only 5 days in 2007. so the main thing here is u have only 5 days of leave that u can clear (not including Off-In-Lieus which can be up to a max. of 7 days).
the directive is in place as they do not want NSFs to go on long leaves before their ORD so they can pass down their tasks to their understudies properly. -

These guys cannot complain since they're already "short-changing" the rest of us by 6 months.
