Killing should be the last resort.
When a soldier crosses the border and attempts to kill someone on the other side , he must have disregarded all other forms of peaceful settlements including diplomacy.
Nevertheless , i always choose the peace option . -

War and killing should always be the last resort. We will only kill when we are being attacked. Thats the only thing we can do to defend ourself.
As for those pple that hate to be coded as a Singaporean, you should probably get out of the country. If you think the other side of the pasture is really that green, think again. Constantly taking peace and security for granted.
How soundly do you sleep at night without people smashing your windows, burning down your neighbour's house? How much school fees have been subsidised since you started schooling? Which other country will give ERS in times of difficulty? The amount of income tax as compare to many other nations, have you looked into it? Cars maybe expensive but with such complex transport system, do you really have to drive? For ego or for convenience? Unable to fulfile your ego, push the blame on the government and country.
Its fated that you are born in Sg and so be it. Your roots will be in Sg. Be proud of it.
The country and government have done alot for the citizens. The little thing we can do is by defending it. May not for just military defence. There are other areas of defence as well. -

Yesterday, 28 June 2005, DnB NOR Asset Management (of Norway)decided on changes in the portfolio of companies included in the DnB NOR Asia mutual fund, thus excluding the company Singapore Technologies, which is believed to continue to produce land mines to the country's national defence. Asset Management has recently been in dialogue with Norwatch (a news service provided by the organisation Future in Our Hands - FIOH) in connection with a review of certain companies included in DnB NOR's mutual funds. Parallel to this dialogue, Norwatch brought the issue concerning Singapore Technologies to the attention of the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry. The latter party's interest in the matter sped up the decision on the portfolio structure in the Asia fund somewhat, but did not influence Asset Management's conclusion concerning the company.
The decision made on Tuesday, 28 June is based on a review of the overall structure of the fund in view of the ethical guidelines currently under preparation by Asset Management, which include the following statement: "DnB NOR Asset Management will not invest in companies that deliberately harm people or the environment or neglect democratic principles. These aspects must be considered prior to making investments. Assessments of companies the funds invest in must be based on their intentions rather than their past history."

AFAIK, landmines are often used in civil wars like the one between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil rebels. Most of the unexploded mines seem to be found in Africa. In fact, the UN is trying to get member states to stop laying these deadly devices.

I might have a problem killing someone with a knife in cold blood.
Apart from that, I'm afraid it takes too much conscience - which I do not have anyway - not to kill.
Like most people, I often found that when being cornered I lose control and fight like a maniac. It's a kind of rage I am not even normally aware I have. Somehow, when I feel afraid or threatened I immediately tap into this pool of anger and focus it. It's like all the injustice ever happened in my life comes welling up in an instant and you're on attack mode. The more scared I am the harder I fight.
This is not killer instinct. This is self-preservation.
There are very very few people who doesn't have this will to fight (or kill) to save their own skin or that of their mates.
Really tough army training can bring this out. But since we are a peaceful country, it is actually wise of SAF not to hone this aggressiveness in our NSF too much or we'll all be walking time bombs. -

Well,modern warfare is a very very rapid kind of thing.And often you don't have time to think whether to shoot or not.When the 1st rounds start coming in your direction, all the countless hours doing combat drills will just automatically take over and you will return fire.The one who when under fire freezes up and hesistates is the one who will get killed and will get those around him killed as well.

The two countries fell into the hands of communists in 1970's.Corruptions,wrong tactics ,US strategy etc played a part of their fall.I wandered how many soldiers of these countries like u guys practised NOT KILLing.
