it a drill which not many can carry out for the 1st time. and since 1st time get it done without the full drill, all forget how to do the proper drill altogether... you one of them or have you done it b4? no matter what is the case... just a drill, do it perfect, 100% and the chute dun open oso no point. you have oni 1 sec to react for the next action to take. -

500 feet,
prepare for action.
stand up, hook up, check static line, check equipment, sound off for equipment check. move forward (right left right left). 5 seconds stand in the door. green on go.
1000,2000,3000
check, toggle, front, over right, over left, under left, under right, in between. good para position.
If one knows the drill perfectly well, can react instantly for the total malfunction. There is a reason they made us hit it and sit feet knee lock tight all the time.
