hi..i would like to find out from all SAF regulars and ex regulars on issues regarding the "Minimum Term of Engagement." My brother signed on under the joint Poly Diploma Scheme which indicates that he must serve a minimum period of 5 yrs to complete his full NS liabilities. However, he is bonded for 6 years under the contract.
Will the organisation let him go for an early release after he has completed his MTE, provided he is willing to pay for the pro rata LD?
Or does he has to finish his 6 yrs before he can leave? -

As he a dip holder his NS is 2 1/2 so X 2 = 5
He sure can leave after completing MTE but why not stay for 1 more year?

The LD that he has to pay is not that much, as he has received just a modest sum from SAF when he signed on (fyi he signed on after completing the 3rd yr of his studies)
Has any of your friend leave the service after MTE instead of serving the full 6 yrs? Have they been rejected b4 even though they are willing to pay for the LD? -

Obligation Service(OS) from the manpower directive if I'm not wrong is 1 year from the date of promotion you can't leave the service at all unless they discharge the person.
Got people leave straight away after 5 years MTE he very rich because he struck it big somewhere.
Usually they will try very hard to let you serve the 6 years, unless you can have some officers you know to write to them for immediate release after MTE.
3 months in advance before the intended date of release is usually the norm.
Mind you that your friend will be sort of "Marked" when your friend do this.
Do it through the chain of command. Or Punishment will be given.
Apply through S1/Manpower, interview with S1 then CO, interview with Brigade/Formation Com/S1 then will go the CPC/PSC.
If approved then get ready to do clearance, clear leave and watch your back for silent arrows! -

My reservist unit is not my vocation at all...
Who ever doing my reservist posting must be dumb
Not so important on my past as I'm ORD LOH

Another Class 1 guy, If I am not wrong you are not allow to work in foriegn pte firm for one year at least.

i mean if its your own free will to discharge from service and willing to pay the LD they cannot stop you, coz at the end of the day they can't force you to work. I worked in a HR firm once and from what i know, under any binding employment contract or bond, the party can choose to pay up the LD and leave. There is no such things as forced employment given the party accept and willing to pay the damages. Since he has already completed his NS by then.
So how did your friends managed to leave after their minimum term of engagement? -
They think of very good reasons to explain so they are able to leave.

A friend of mine is trying to sign on but he already finish his NS. He also took the Joint Diploma Scheme. So if the MTE is 5 years, does it mean he also has to do the 5 years even tho he already finished his NS liability?
If not how many years he has to work in SAF? -
Once finished the NS liability no MTE.
MTE apply to those have not finish NS liabilities before regular service.
Last time got 1 crazy fellow signed 1 year then leave -
then i guess he must have paid alot of $$ to get out of service. Are there many people who have tried to leave but unsuccessful?
