China , at least Han Chinese provinces have been unified as one since the "Qin" more than two thousands years ago, thru famines, civil unrest and wars and even invasions by other races & are still unified as one till now.
And that I believe will not change no matter what is the political situation. -

I have heard that many times. Taiwan should be an independent country, Tibet break away, followed by inner mongolia and xin jiang since they are not Han chinese, then Guangdong province, together with Hong Kong and Macao since cantonese speaking ppl are very different from those speaking putonghua, and they will get the support of many overseas chinese who migrated from Hong Kong over the years, especially those in Canada. Then the 3 provinces in the northeast should break away as they are basically manchurian and they have very close link culturally and economically with Korea and Japan. When all these happen, Shanghai municipality, together with Zhejiang province will be economically powerful enough to break away from the central government in Beijing, then of course Fujian, homes of most overseas chinese in south east asia.....
The ppl who told me this said this is an American dream. Anybody with a little knowledge of the 5000 yrs history of China will know that such thing would never happen. But they don't need historical knowledge to have wet dream. -

The present China as a unified country is of our best interest. Sg has accumlated billions dollars of investment into China for the past 2 decades. Any political fallout or disintegration of the centralised chinese gov, will surely lead to unrest in Asia.
As a matter of fact, China is a big country that consists of at least 50+ dialect groups. The chinese muslim has a sizable population in the country. In addition, they control the region that housed most of the Chinese nuclear research facility (there are also may plutomium mine in the region as well). Any collapsed of the central chinese gov will result in a rise of another nuclear armed islamic republic in the central asia. Given the geopolitical conditions, there are plenty of oil wells in the central asia, racial hamony is NOT a commodity in this region. The developement will be grave for India and Russia as well. Thus, it is not in the best option for India and Russia to see another Islamic republic to be born next to their common borders.
Jap and Korea will have to face the outbreak of the social-economical unrest if the central chinese gov break apart. There would be hardliners in these breakaway statelets looking at how to exploit the new-found freedom of projecting the nuclear power to the entire Asia Pacific region. Jap might be hiding under the Missile Shield, but that does not give any warranty against the threat of nulcear terrorism on jap mainland. In addition, due to the close proximity of China and Jap, the missile shield response time might not be adequate to provide cover over the entire Jap. Most frightening of all, Chinese refugees would flood the entire Asia Pacific regions and create soical unrest. The global supply chain of the MNCs would be disrupted. Commodities, fuel and food price in the world will skyrocketed due to political uncertainities.
I certainly do not wish to live in that type of future. Only mad man would want this scenrio to become reality. -

Actually Jap and China has an excellent long history of bad blood since the Tang Dynasty, below are some historical recorded conflicts:
200-300AD: Sun Quan of Wu kingdom had ordered his Wu navy to attack the Jap pirates or militants that poise a threat to his kingdom.
1200-1300AD: Chinese under their Mongolian Khan launched 2 futile invasions in attempt to bring Japan down her knees.
1500-1540D: Jap rebels and priates had attacked the china south coast. Ming General Qi Yi Guang launched counterattacks to drive the Jap back to the seas.
1580-1600AD: Jap gathered about 100,000 men to invade Korea kingdom as a stepping stone for the ultimate attack on Ming Dynasty China. General Yi from Korean Navy using his turtle boat successfully crippled the entire Jap navy from resupllying the invading Jap army in korea. Ming Chinese Army with firearms managed to keep Jap invaders at bay. Ultimately, Jap were defeated by Ming China and Korean Armies.
1890-1895AD: Jap invaded Korea using the excuse of the TongHakTong event. Later, the conflict escalated into full scale war btw Jap and China, better known as Sino-Japanese War. The Jap navy managed to sink the Qing Dynasty prized BeiYang Navy. China defeated by Jap.
1904-1906AD: Boxer rebellion in China. Jap lead the Allied troops to attack china. Qing gov fled Beijing.
1920-1930AD: Jap assinated Northern Warlord Gen Zhang Zou Lin and occupied manchuria. Emperior Pu Yi had ascended to the throne of the new manchuria kingdom under Jap semi-colonization rule.
1930-1937AD: Jap began to move agressively into northern China. In 1937, Jap decided to attack China before the large weapon cache delivered from Germany (Nationalist China tried to modernize her army with Nazi Germany help in terms of techical adivse and military hardware).

1946-1948AD: Jap surrendered their weapons in Manchuria to the Chinese Communist Army, and provided training to the communists for preapring the communist to fight the nationalist. -
I doubt China will disintegrate like that. Honestly, Stratfor's major predictions should be taken with a pinch of salt. Not that they are wrong... but predictions are in the end still predictions.

China has been protesting about Japan distortion of WW2 on a particular history book. But this history book takes only 1% of the number of Japanese schools that use it. It is not compulsory for all the schools to use it. It is open and transparent. If the school donÂ’t like it, then donÂ’t use it.
On the contrary, China has created a even bigger distortion on its own history books. Any history books in china from primary to secondary to pre-university glorify anything and everything under the sun about the communist party.

It say that it is the country that beat Japan in WW2, there is no reference of the real victor which is America.
It did not say anything about the cultural revolution where more than 20 million Chinese died under the leadership of chairman Mao.

Japan's public schools don't have the freedom to choose. They got to use MOE approved's books which distort WW2 history. The Japanese govt had successfully raised a new generation of Japanese who are ignorant of their ugly past. They believed that Rape of Nanking was fabricated by the Chinese govt. But they are not aware that there is a long list of atrocities committed by their grandfathers 60 years ago. -

Have you read a chinese history book??? I visited bookstores in guangzhou, beijing, shanghai and Wuxi, history textbooks only highlight the role of ccp in PRC, under modern chinese history. The real victor of world war two are the communist, very sad to say. Half of europe came under communist after ww2 together with china mainland and half of korea c. and of course the countries that became independent since. Actually 30m people died in great leap forward not cultural revolution.
The Great Leap Forward is now widely seen both within China and outside as a major economic disaster. Various Western and Eastern sources put the death toll at about 30 million people, with the majority of the deaths owed to starvation.

Basing on the long history between Chinese and Jap for the past 5000years,
we could see Jap people are
1. very receptive towards advance culture and tech.
2. work very hard to integrate themselves into the advance culture
(eg buddhism in Jap, chinese learning in jap war state era, westernization in Meiji era)
But the Jap are also very power hunger and a very fair weather friend. China has been supporting Jap in Han and Tang Dynasties era, then Jap turned aginst China in Song and Ming Dynasties. Later, Jap even want to makan the whole china in late Qing dynasty and WW2.
US should realized that Jap has been turning against US in the dawn of the WW2 and started the pearl harbour. Do u think given Jap past record, US will trust them w/o the 30000 soldier in Korea and 50000 soldiers in Okinawa and Guam island? -
