I wouldnt say in service lar. I saw one display piece in Sungei Gedong camp, the armor heritage centre.

Same case as the M60A3 MBT. Tried to look for Acrobat Reader files on US Arms Transfers to Singapore but could not find anything. However I strongly believe that the SAF has a quantity of M60A3 MBTs delivered from US Marine surplus in service as well. -
Btw a 152mm HEAT round fired from the M551's main gun would easily take out even a modern MBT.

Haha... M551 Sheridan, about 30 over years old.
But still comparatively "younger" than our 60 over years old AMX-13.
AMX-13 were built in the 1950's. Older than all of us here. -

Perhaps US Army surplus... But the US Marine Corps started to decommission their M60s in the late 1980s and it was logical for the SAF to acquire operational tanks straight from them instead of having to pay more reactivating older US Army M60s as the M1 Abrams was already entering service in large numbers by then.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Marine surplus?Now that's something I've not heard before.. -
The M551 Sheridan was used in the 1990 Gulf War. I've no idea if it was used in the actual ground war, but it was one of the first to be deployed to Saudi Arabia because it was the only tank in the US inventory light enough to be delivered by air-drop, as an initial response holding force.

Isn't the M551 a scrap vehicle for display? Somebody had a photo of it online once. Also, there's an old Russian MT-LB tracked vehicle lying around. Can't remember what else.

If we do have M60A3, it should be upgraded to Israeli Sabra MkI standard.

As above, Sabra MkI was unveiled in 1999, Turkey started negotiation of the Sabra upgrade in 2000 and was later offered the Sabra MKII, not Sabra MkI which was actually designed for certain country, so which country again????

Yesterday, our neighbour just show us some colour in their mass display of newly aquired arms. That of course include the much hyped PT91M with special mod to hang a additional fuel tank in the back. This is so kind for them to give of boys in AMX13SM1 some "chances".

Actually , PT-91M are not the real threat to our armoured forces becos:
1) the number are too small , only 48.
2) Without air superiority which we will achieve easily, these are sitting ducks for our Apaches, Spike team and even CAS a/c with laser guided bomb.
The real threat to our armoured forces is their numerous anti-tank teams, MY with their pathetic small armoured forces is actually incapable of stopping an armoured invasion( especially w/o air superiority).
Just look at the orbat of SG and Thailand , both nations have 2~3x of armoured and fighters asset as compare to MY, therefore they have developed the doctrine of having anti-tank teams to be stationed across all major roads , pathway etc to ambush the invasion armoured force.

So to counter this, our recon assets must able to find and destroy them b4 our forces move in.
Secondly is to have Active Protection System like the Israeli Trophy, this system is suppose to be effective against low velocity CE round like HEAT ATGM and rockets.
Our tanks and IFV should have this when the APS system has matured or develop our own APS to counter such threat. -
Else why do u think we have so many arty assets... flash them out using bombardment into the forested area.

The combat engineers use it to carry light bridges. Sekali, thats where the 30 come from.
