We must see things in perspective. Last year, govt announced that civil service will cut 3% of all ministries(except MINDEF) manpower annually from 2004- 2007. All minintries(except MINDEF) will have 2% budget cuts. MINDEF is the only one that have more budget this year. i think RSAF should be glad that they have new & expensive jets. Many civil servants are the one that have low morale as they have worry about smaller budgets, retrenchment & outsourcing. -
As I say again to hell with classification of 4g !!! As I mention before, 1986 all three F-15E , rafale and eurofighter took their first flight ! So rafale is not really that impressive or new. In fact Mirage 2000-5 have the same capability of the rafale, you see that most middle east countries are even buying mirage 2000-5 instead of rafale.
Heh heh, I thought I already mention F-15E is a totally different plane from the older F-15-A till D

The authorities of Singapore have announced that they have selected the RafaleÂ’s competitor pour their future combat aircraft program.
This is a sovereign decision of the State of Singapore. France respects it as such.
Although we regret it, this decision will not affect the quality of our bilateral relations.
During this exhaustive international competition between several aircraft, Rafale was selected as one of the two finalists. The RafaleÂ’s qualities have been recognized.
At the time of the final decision, however, the present weakness of the US dollar appears to have been a determining factor in favor of our competitors.

The F-15 airframe design is basically still current. The SU-30, Su-35 are all still basically in this kind of configuration give or take a canard or two...
Our F-15 is really a new plane, using a tried and tested airframe.
It's a safe choice, I have to say, not necessarily the best choice.
I was hoping for the Typhoon but when that was dropped, I definitely feel the F-15 is a safer choice than the Rafale.
When the RSAF bought the F-16 Falcon or Viper (which is correct anyway?), it was already a proven plane. Sound, reliable and proven deadly in by the Israelis.
The same with the Eagle. It has been battle-proven. Folks have gone to war several times with this plane and everything from logistics, reliability, weapon delivery have all been proven to work very, very, very well.
Plus the people selling us this piece of equipment is happy to share with us their years of combat-fighting experience on this platform.
We'd be silly to throw ALL THAT away and go for an "iffy", unproven, un-combat-tested French product. -
gd plane but hell big of radar cross section.... unless they can provide us the radar absorbant material into our F-15T.....

Anyway, like you I was also hoping for the sleek and sexy Eurofighter.... but when it was dropped, I rooted for the Eagle. I dunno why... I just seem to trust the Yanks more than the Frogs in terms of technology. Besides, compatibility with our existing Vipers is a major plus point.
To sum it all up, we can all argue till the cows come home, but the bottom line is that we are getting the Eagles no matter what. So it's time we all stopped bickering and welcome the Eagles back to Hotel Singapura.

The F15T is a good choice.
Economic of maintenance:
F15T will share a large number of standard spare parts with our current fleets of F16. The technical expertise gained in maintaining the F16 fleets could be applied on the F15T, thus reducing the lead time for our intregation of F15T into RSAF.
Blanket order of spare parts and standardization of critical components could be more readily available from USAF storage for us. Price of these spares could be cheaper. We could also get the scrapped F15A/B/C from US for our own "mod" as well (just like the A4 skyhawks). We could get the first 1 or 2 batches of brand new F15T, then followed by 30-40 mothballed F15A/B/Cs stored in US deserts with special technical modification done with the help from our friendly Nation X. This will enhance our technical capability, and will prove useful in building our next gen UCAV as our NGF in 20xx.
On surface, the Sukkoi fighter and Rafale deals looks more spectular. But this is only from surface. The Russians and French would not be willing to share with u the in-dpeth knowledge w/o your heavy investment. Sukkoi are not young, the Sukkoi is designed and built in late 1970s. But the special russian mod with Nation X equipments in Indian Sukkoi, has transformed the Su30MKI
into a deadly foe for any western planes. Rafale is a young planes currently only backed by France. The time & cost factors could be very very high to develope the Rafale into a mature plane.
Operations:
While F15T is going to be a yesterday plane sooner or later, but the "mod" could enhance the lifespan of the F15T as well. We can expect to see a lot of "funny mod" in our F15Ts, possibly using the F15T together with UCAVs for ground supression missions. F15Ts heavy payload is good for carrying Stand-off weapons in RSAF for deep strike missions.
While Rafale would be used in junction with the French UCAVs in the future, F15T could be our local test platform. When the production line closes in states after 2010, we could get the equipments and blueprints in-house. In addition, we could also get the F15T engineering teams into Sg for our future projects (eg thrust vectoring F15S??, stealth F15S?? or ALCM F15S??). The French Rafale team is a great engineering teams, but we have more experience in working with our friends in states.
Finally, when coming to post modern air combat, the victor is always the side with the furthest reach and detection range. The AMRAAMs and Python4 would be the deadliest AAM in this era, expected to dominate well into next decade. Russian AAM are good, but the electronic miniaturization is way behind that of Nation X, let alone our friends in States. That is why the R77 electronic sensors are bigger in size for similar performance envelope as the AMRAAMs. -
Can anybody enlighten me why the Europeans choose canard + delta wing for their latest fighters (Gripen, Rafale, Eurofighter) whereas the Yanks choose conventional wing + tailplane for their latest fighters (Raptor, JSF)?

I believe that the Canards provide more lift plus the bulk of the weight is at the aft of the plane, making the centre of gravity further back, resulting in a naturally unstable aircraft. Both storys are correct actually. There was a competition the Air Force held to search for a name for the plane. Fighting Falcon was chosen officially, but the pilots preferred viper from battlestar galatica.

Not really possible to upgrade F-15A to F-15C to F-15T. The F-15E and later are completely different aircraft ffrom the earlier ones. The only thing they share are the name and the overall shape. Everything else is different.

the trend now it towards two seaters, a pilot and a systems officer, the advent of super smart has added enormously to the workload of the pilot that most good A2G platforms has a twin seating configuration, e.g the marine's F-18Ds, superhornet Fs, strike eagles, israeli F-16I sufas .... flanker Su34s etc .... with so many sensors and systems readouts to scan, pilots may succumb to information overloads, hence the extra person to help cope with it ... the same reason why attack choppers have the same configuration (the newer russian birds notwithstanding) ...Originally posted by fartboystinks:you sure?

but i thought the F-15 E has a larger wingspan than the F-15 B because of the extra bombs?
Anyway who still uses Mig-25? shd be SU-30.. i guess f-15 wanna catch them got a teeny weeny bit of a problem in dogfight.
