yea....and THAT will MATCH FLANKER capability in terms of Air-to-air rolesOriginally posted by Shotgun:Now why would we want to invest in the Gripen as a TRAINER? Kind of a waste for such an aircraft.
I hope the RSAF considers the Typhoon once it gets radar upgraded. Nothing beats a high T/W ratio aircraft that can carry 10 AMRAAMs.
I thought somebody mentioned in another thread there is no chance of SG getting AMRAAMs to work European (Typhoon, Rafale) aircraft?Originally posted by Shotgun:That would be MATCH, in terms of weapons, BUT will surpass the flanker in terms of first look first lock.
The flanker is a huge aircraft that can be detected even by the F-16s radar from extreme range, 80-100 miles out. Assuming both the flanker and typhoon radar to be equal strength, the typhoon's low RCS would allow it to avoid the flanker's radar for a lil longer.
Assuming that is, we don't get AMRAAM D's with 2 way data links. With those, the advantage is even greater.
Hey, anybody knows if the M'sians got the Sorbitsya jamming pods together with their Su-30s?
well at least is been test by the Gripen and Rafale onboard trial already......Originally posted by spartan6:Meteors is still under development, thou several live firing have been completedon Rafale n Gripen, it wont be ready by 2010![]()
Spart, pardon my strong language. I rarely reply and when i do, it is with all seriousness.Originally posted by spartan6:4 on fuselage side , 2 on each of e 6 wing pylons using twin launch rail n 1 on each outboard pylon=== 4*1 + 6*2 + 2*1 =18![]()
aiyo...typhoon not like subpar hornet ah.....Originally posted by spartan6:4 on fuselage side , 2 on each of e 6 wing pylons using twin launch rail n 1 on each outboard pylon=== 4*1 + 6*2 + 2*1 =18![]()
There have been suggestions of giving away the planes for free, but the recipient would have to pay for the uppgrade in software, to inflight refueling etc.Originally posted by Joe Black:Getting the extra Gripen is a really good buy if one actually knows the true capabilities of the Gripen especially in the area of data link and information sharing. It would make great F-5 replacement.
As attractive as it may seem, 70 planes still cost a heck lot of money and I doubt anyone could just buy them in 1 go... Even if Singapore barter trade say 100 pieces of Primus and a few Endurance, lets say 4, I doubt it still covers the price of secondhand Gripen, not to forget, these babies need to be upgraded too.
i dare say i'm fairly familiar with the EF considering the work i had to deal with the past few years. it is a good bird on paper and in the air, but alot of its combat abilities and potential is on paper and theoratical. how much is that worth in the years to come is still questionable.Originally posted by spartan6:Hmm hmm no 1 know e actual preformance of e typhoon n AMRAAM is capable of multiple launch against a single target whether it can be done anot MAY not be impossiable, anyway able 2 carry it n actually carrying it in2 battle is 2 different thing, like u say it may not be a good choice as it affect e aircraft performance but e point im making is how many it can in theory carry not pratically carryNot 1 in e right mind will carry 18 missile on a single aircraft in2 battle

hi spart, be it 1-10, sometimes numbers arent the only factor. the optimum load of any ftr is dependent on the type of role/mission. take my word for it.Originally posted by spartan6:Infact i think 4 AMRAAM is e best number 2 carry on a single airfame as u only maybe get 1 or 2 shot before dogfight n qnh 1011 dun be so agitated anyway u seem 2 know your stuff it will be great 2 share with us more![]()
u'r really close... and which a/c might that be?Originally posted by Shotgun:From what I understand its still 10 AMRAAMs max. 4 Fuselage AMRAAMs, 3 on each wing.
With new AESA radars, i think it is now easily possible to launch Multiple amraams at multiple targets each. Even the F-16 was capable of firing multiple amraams at a single target. But firing at multiple targets need skill. And still needs quite a bit of time and closing fast with the enemy... which is something that shud be avoided.
tankee, u a real tankee? interesting to know that a tankee's interested in aviation.Originally posted by tankee1981:Speaking about the Super Hornets...since Malaysia is going to get some...any chance they are better than the F-15SG we are getting?![]()
subpar AoA is higher......Originally posted by qnh1011:sometimes, it's not just the a/c that counts... dun get me wrong. a/c performance and capabilities are a major factor, but let's not forget the driver's skills as well.
on paper, there aint no chance in hell that the superbug outperforms the F15SG. realistically, i wouldnt worry unnecessary even if i had to go up against the superbug or the MKM with what i'm already driving. pls dun preach to me abt arrogance or complancency. those who are in the know will know why. those who dun... well, they jus dun know
anyway, try not to look at ftrs as just A-A ftrs. nowadays, ftrs perform a myriad of roles.
cheers man!
Actually, i was referring to the Typhoon... Max AAMs i remembered seeing was 10. The other 3 remaining hard points was for external fuel tanks and heavier stuff.Originally posted by qnh1011:u'r really close... and which a/c might that be?![]()
