Gun barrel explodes, three jawans die in Jhansi

Three army troops were killed when an artillery gun barrel exploded during a joint military exercise between India and Singapore in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday.
The accident occurred on Saturday when the jawans were displaying the efficiency of the artillery gun at 41st Armoured Division premises at Babina, they said.
The barrel of the gun suddenly exploded killing the soldiers instantly.
The blast ripped apart the bodies of jawans, police said adding the dead were Rampati Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Ashok Singh Sahi.
No Singaporean soldier was hurt, police said adding the exercises were called off for the day but resumed on Sunday. -
Can anyone show a pic of the gun which the Indians are operating at that point of time? Thanks. Such unfortunate events,luckily no Singaporean troops are injured. RIP.

Three troops killed during firing exercise near Jhansi
Lucknow, Jan. 15 (PTI): Three soldiers of the elite Guards Regiment were killed when a mortar barrel exploded during training firing exercises near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.
Sepoys Rampati Yadav, Sanjay Yadav and Ashok Singh Sahi were conducting training courses for foreign army personnel, including from Singapore, when the 84mm mortar barrel exploded, Army officials said.
Army officials said apparently faulty mortar rounds caused the explosion." The incident happened at 3.30 pm when the soldiers who were conducting the training fired the 84 MM mortar which exploded killing all the three instantly".
No foreign solider or any visiting member of the Singapore Army was involved in the incident, they said clarifying that firing ranges of the 41st Armoured Division at Babina were used to train Singapore army personnel on artillery guns.
Officials also clarified no joint army exercise was being conducted. -
so were we exercising together ? ... or they teaching us ? ... or we were just using their ranges ? ....

There could be mistakes with the report. I don't think there is a "84mm mortar". More likely a 84mm RR gun.
The accident happened on the same training ground/range which Singapore uses, but has nothing to do with us. -

Reminds me of the gun explosion that happen to SAF during an exercise in NZ...forgot how many dead....know one NZ officer was badly injured...heard from my friend in Arty at that time that one of the body only left half of the body...later the fault was traced to a faultly round and the whole batch was destroyed....

according to local news.. its due to faulty arty round detonator that was imported from PRC.
after the incident... X rays of several arty shells shows several other faulty detonator made in PRC in SAF service...
one of the company (part of the ST group) that imported the detonator later declared that henceforth... ST will NEVER import detonators form the same chinese factory,(or isit from PRC). -
