Storming of Buses in case of Hostage/Terrorist situation.

Actually unlike a airplane where there are blind spots to approach the aircraft, the bus gives you a pretty much 360% view. Unless it a darn dark night, think its going to be pretty hard to achieve 100% surprise.
So it's gonna be tough to retake the bus without casualities I think. Worse yet if he/she has bombs onboard. -

Honestly, the best operators are those who can overcome obstacles and complete their objectives without firing a single shot.Its not like being a rambo and shooting the whole place up, if so any regular infantry can be called upon to do that.

I think in the case of a HRT, the HRT would move and would definitely shoot to kill the hostage taker. Unless the terrorist becomes really guai, lies flat down on his stomach, arms n legs extended for the HRT to arrest.
in anycase, the bus scenario is not the hardest of scenarios already. If the bus actually gets stopped into a stalemate... its over for the terrorist already. No point fighting. Wear them out until they cannot stay awake den send teams in. -
When I was in Singapore in the 70s, school boy days, there was a hostage taking crisis somewhere near Fort Canning. Can't remember how the criminals were armed ... I think they committed armed robbery with revolvers and it was botched. The criminals boarded a bus after the robbery ( the old SBS non-aircon type) and took a few people hostage.
Our Police Tactical Team reacted by quickly trapping the bus at a junction and surrounded it. Weapons and tactics were not so sophisticated then. I believe one of the criminals was shot through a window by a police inspector with a submachince gun ... type unknown.. (at least this was what was reported). Then they stormed the bus ( no tactics revealed) and rescued everyone. One criminal was injured, the rest were arrested. -

Ultimately, when such a crisis arises, the main objective of the assault teams be it Military of Law Enforcement would be to ensure minimal casualties. Think that the bus is one of the toughest environments to do a tango take-down.
Also, the very fact that the ability of the operating unit to react to the given situation is also very much a high factor in determining the mission's success or failure. Someone mentioned that being in a bus, it would be easy to end the situation by simply immobilizing the bus and then laying seige to it, however, I doubt that this will work.
A bus scenario offers no place for the assaulters board it discreetly and also its a confined place, unlike that of an airliner. The Tangos and Assaulters have much more room to move about as compared to in a bus. Also by laying seige over a long period, it increases the possibility of Stockholm Syndrome, and also serves to agitate the hostage-takers more which may result in deaths of the hostage as the Tangos are in a confined space and are more irritable compared to being in a larger environment.
Feel that in such a scenario, the most important is that of speed and decisive action. 4 Land Rovers with step ladders behind driving towards the bus , box it.Two at the front and back, both perpendicular and ramming the bus to get make the Tangos lose their footing and two by the side with assaulters launching Flashbangs into the buildings immediately, before swarming it and taking the Tangos down. -
chances or storming is near to none. U gotta either exhaust the terrorist psychologically or prepare bodybags for the hostages. Most terrorists will know u have snipers and will try to use hostages as shield and unless ur sniper is like super power.. what if got 5 terrors ? What if got bombs ? how ? U dun know got bombs ...
i say just be prepared to assume the worst. No negotiations with terrorists. U blow the hostages up with the Terrors. End game. Both side kena WIN LOSE situation.. 50/50. So not bad. -
Ur nomal infantry wont have Rambo's luck , skill or power to do that. In case i see u guys coming to box my bus. i Blow it up. I kill the hostages.
