Keep in mind Astross is just a luncher.....and there is a quite some varities of missile configuration in the market including Guided MLRS missile....MAF won't just restrict buying missiles from brazil......
As for costal defense may not be THAT efective compared to a exocet shore batteries. Even with just carrying cluster munition the expose portion of the ship eyes and ears can reader the ship hepless.
The US intruder did use cluster bomb at Libya Missile Frigate during the Libya incident. The ship dis not sink but at least render it hepless a drift. -
Hmm, kinda hard to use MLRS on ships isn't it? As long as they have advance warning on the incoming rocket and are far enough, a brief run at flank speed before the rocket arrives are you are out of the way, not unless they have smart rounds or something...

Yes indeed, the Brazil company that sold them the Astros launcher did offer them cruise missiles but i doubt Malaysia took their offer.

4 rockets with bomblets at a range of 90km which no counter battery available in sg.... not even firefinder can find it.
maybe you would like to read the specs of astros II...
SS-30 rocket, caliber 127mm, can be loaded with 32 rounds per launcher and has a range between 9km and 30km.
SS-40 rocket, caliber 180mm, can be loaded with 16 rounds per launcher and has a range between 15km and 35km.
SS-60/SS-80 rocket, caliber 300mm, can be loaded with 4 rounds per launcher and has a range between 20km and 90km.

the 18 ASTROS II MRLS MY bought is to deny any SAF planes from taking off. any SAF plane which manages to take off will have to overcome 30mm, manpads and sam.
did anyone here ever take a look at SAF runways distants to the straits and direction of taking off? before any SAF plane manages to gain altitude it has to do a sharp left of right turn to avoid MY airspace which is the straits of johor. and hiding any 30mm, manpads and jernas in forestation near johor straits isn't a feat. -

Looks like if we are not going to aquire any counter against this piece on the chess board, the plan will be to JDAM them or sent in MLRS hunting spec op teams?

Israel has developed rocket launchers to be fitted on warships as small as our MGBs. Why not try that out? We can hit them and hit them hard and get little counter-fire.

Using Astross at longer than 30km at a ship may not be effective....however less than 30km with increase round per luncher can be "nice" to a ship! Range to target can be provide with forward observer with a field laser range finder. At 35+ knots and less than 30 km how far can a ship run....even if missile is detected early in flight.

Then the ship better flatten the launcher with return fire from the main gun... how far can the 75mm reach?

FEBAs tend to be subjected to a ghastly amount of artillery shelling. Only the brave will go out and man their SAMs and 30mm guns under such shelling.

Yeah and not to mention when they do finally fire off a SAM, it's just an invation for a HARM missile to come in and shred them to hamburger with tousands of tiny tungsten cubes. But somebody's got to do it. I wonder when will we get any solid fiction about Singapore military, where are all our aspiring Tom Clancies?
