the old one or the new one being introduced?Originally posted by MinisterOfDefence:However, they also said that Singapore's sniper rifle (scout) is seen as rather obsolete?
Wad u all think?

eh? u tried the SAR 21 b4?? how is it??Originally posted by foxtrout8:actually the design to suit singaporean soldiers is onli a general characteristic, surely it cant be 100% on the fravour of our soldiers. For mi , i personally prefer the SAR-21 , due to my short arm . The SAR-21 may be heavier , but i find it more comforting due to center of gravity being on the center of tha gun.

haben been to NS , however having tried the M-16 at discovery center and Bukit Timah SAFRA ,
really find it quite uncomfortable , long , heavy and bulky.

sar21 needs the firer to free 1 hand to switch from different modes of operation.changin the mag requires you to hold on to the mag.m16 wise you jus need to push the release switch wif your firing finger and the other free hand go grab another mag.
cocking the rifle of an m16 is much easier than the sar21,at least you won't hurt you finger of nails while doing so,especially when you had to urgently change a mag while in a firefight.

long , heavy and bulky
**********************************************************
m16 is longer,no doubt. but sar21 is much heavier,i assure you.
bulky?how can a sar21 be less bulky? the hand guard is cramped with the LED n the battery compartment.it's much thicker than the m16 so it can't be less bulky!!!
**********************************************************
Then i have the chance to fire a few blank rounds of the SAR-21 at T.Defence Day . Having the first time trying out the rifle , i have a great trial experience on it. It is less bulky , shorter and overall confortable. ( statistically the SAR-21 is heavier , however u cant really feel it heavy lor. )
***********************************************************
funny how come you can't feel the difference...
statistically,sar21 is already heavier than m16 when unloaded and without the batteries.not to mention with a fully loaded mag in!
funny....lor
************************************
Athough i have not tried the two rifles in action as it will be a very different experience out there , than the range , However i have a very good first impression of the SAR-21 which solve most of the discomfort i encountered with the M-16.
****************************************************************
in a way it brought more discomfort to the people tat need to use it on a day to day basis, not to mention bringin it to war..
****************************************************************
Anyone out there with the on-hand experience to share?
*****************************************************************
me.the scope is a nice idea though.but m16 and sar21 head on, m16 win hands up for me.
If U think U are Right ...U are Right Lor...
