Should the Navy have Marines or Marines like training?

We are not a major military power on this planet. So we should just keep it simple. Minimize components, and maximize cross training.

Guards in the past are really guards...... but SAF expanded and the Guards' original duties handled over to the Provost(MPs). So now the Guards are trained with "heavy" infantry tactics with heli/amphiboius ops....... But they still call Guards.......Originally posted by bryantoh:guards i tgt they are like sentry

Last time Guards are the Guards of ammo dumps and camp gates.......now they are the Guards of The whole Singapore.....fully trained for combat.... -

The US Army operates the Marine Corp as a component of the Navy, and the entire organisation is geared towards a policy of "Force Projection".
The Marine Corp will serve as an "Expeditionary Force" to fulfill the role required of them.
Does Singapore need to embark on such a policy of expansion, and leave her mark or her will on the outcome of any global area that affect us ?
In terms of "Marine like training", we do conduct our "amphibious beachhead assault" at East Coast Park, as well as in our involvement with the bi-annual US-Thai Exercise too. -

The US ARMED FORCES operate the Marines as a component of the Navy Command. -
After doing some research, it seems to be otherwise. The first 2 battalions of Marines came into being on November 10, 1775. They were to serve as landing forces with the fleet. They were known as the Continental Marines. However there was no mention to exactly who the Marines were in service of. However, what is known is that the term US Army did not exist at that time and technically neither did the US Navy during the time it was created. IMO, since they were the landing forces OF the fleet, that would mean they are part of the fleet.
It is interesting to note that they do operate under Army Rank though. They ranks such as "major" and not "commander'.
What really makes the Marines part of the navy are the traditions they have ever since the founding. They use terminology that are very "nautica". Terms such as "Aye." "Bulkheads" for walls, "overheads" for ceilings, and "deck" for floors." Terminology which are typically navy.
I do believe that the USMC began as Naval infantry. -
thought the combat divers have "Navy Seals's" like job scope already.

If you want to talk about Marines Force Recon, the Guards have a platoon. Brigade level. New to you??
It should be. The concept comes from the Force Recon themselves. Special operations capable. Commandoes & SOF troopers can only cover so much.
In a war, the theatre are divided into A.O.s (Area of Operations). Each unit is given one to handle. If required, Guards will need that specops capabilities. Thus the new specops platoon.
Only comprise of regulars. All volunteered. That way, all are committed to achieve the greatest physical combat & physical fitness. They also test new weapons & gear that will be going to the Guards units.
How I know all this?? Remember the suggestion thingy back in NSF?? I am the one who wrote the propsal of the formation of this platoon to my then CO of 3rd Guards.

I understand ur point : you're pointing towards a navy-based combat unit yah? Not realli sure if i'm allowed to say anything but NDU is comprised of multiple components and some of us can actualli function as Marines, as in navy-based combat personnel if that's what you're referring to. After my Class II course i always think we're a 'pirated' version of the US Navy SEALs. Similar evolutions, cept for mildly reduced demands and instructors don't really go all out to knock you out from the course, (applies to NSF only, they do try to knock regulars out)

Thanks alot!! We had an exercise with them about 3 years back when I was in 3rd Guards. Exercise Valiant. Trained in Tuas area.

as a proud member of 1guards, i'm now ORDed. I had a joint exercise with the US marines in sg. Guards representatives were sent to US to join their marine corp for a 21day outfield mission. Anyway - I was from 1st Guards too - trained with the US Marines before in 1992. They were on a high, after victory in the Gulf war. Never even bothered to change out of their desert uniforms and were running around in tekong in desert camo. -
