so sad that life had ended for some... what type of freak accident is this? i do agree that the ship structure itself looks rather weak no way it can absorb a missile hit and stay afloat. my condolence for family that had lost their daughter. Hope that rest are Ok

I dunno I thought all submarine hunters were supposed to be quiet and invisible? Wouldn't turning on radar and active sonars alert possible enemies? present day naval ships are mainly of aluminium or some composite material constructions...
One missile can sink the RSN PVs, MCVs and MGBs if not severely cripple them.... Likewise.. One missile can also sink if not severely cripple a RMN Lekiu class frigate, USN destroyer or a RTN JiangHu class frigate as easily....
Because modern missiles are so deadly... current naval warship design are base NO longer on armor... as it would be extremely costly and still can be cripple by a missile. or by a torpedo. thus the ships nowadays are built to 'AVOID' being hit by a missile like having CIWS or AMMs like the seawolf or the barak.... Chaff too...
anyway... i think the chances of the servicewomen being alive would be slim... considering the lack of even the tiniest hint from RSN with respect to their current conditions... surely... if they are conscious.. some sort of communications would have already long taken place.... i fear the worst... -
ETboy, it didn't collide with a sampan. I really hate to say this but as said by some of us, chances are very slim...based on the blueprints provided by MINDEF, shown on CNA, the servicewomen are located at the aft (designated Compartment 2) and when compared to a complete Fearless-class ship, Courageous seemed to have missing some length of its aft, surely it said to be compressed but how much of the aft is sheered off?

Hmmm....with all the vessels/aircrats patrolling the area -i guess SAF are more concern about -RMN PASKAL operators with mini subs/subskimmers 'rescuing' the servicewomen in question or worst still some devices/weapons which might have been on board Courageous

but personally I think its quite a low possibility for the remaining missing crew members to still be alive, its been mor than 24 hours since the crash now, if they are injured, they might have drowned or died from wound already(hopefully not).
And they whole ship is already out of water, i wonder why they can't hurry up and just cut open the thing and try to find the missing crew members.
Still suspicious abt the ship having 44 members on board, but thats the last priority now, first thing is to find the missing crew, if they alive, well and good, if they are not, at least give something back to the kins.
Hope they'll be found soon. . . -

I'm not a navy person - but I understand that ships are divided into compartments. If the ship is flooded, how are these compartments sealed - manually or is there an auto system.
And if the aft section is sealed off to save the ship, doesn't it also seal the fate of the 4 women? -
