Nope, very unlikely we will get the F-22 (why we always refer it to the F/A-22?). Its expensive and even if we get the downgraded variant, we will wonder how downgraded it will be...the only way we will certainly get the F-22 is if we got the full version and the all important option, discount...say at least 10% off the total price?

When the SGP Government first requested to purchase the F-16, the US Government had reservations towards our intended purchase; and was not too keen with us having F-16 at all.
When the US Government did approve, it was because Singapore Government requested to purchase the modest F-16 A/B versions.
Nearly ten years later, with the strong military support that Singapore has unstintingly offered to the US Government, we are now getting the F-16 C/D versions.
Reservations were also initially given to Singapore's request for the Apache Attack Helicopters to be fitted with the Longbow Systems; and now the door is wide open for Singapore's additional order for the Apache-Longbow Helicopters.
Today, Singapore is amongst four countries that owns and operates the Apache Longbow Helicopter weapon system.
If Singapore put up a request for the F/A-22 Raptors, it will be unlikely that the US Government will not approve.
It also will be unlikely that the "Raptors" will be a watered down version; not with the strong relations that Singapore has with the US Government on most global issues.
It will be to the advantage of the USAF if Singapore also purchase the F/A-22 Raptors; as with each additional quantity order for this aircraft, Lockheed will be able to lower its manufacturing unit cost.
This will have a positive impact for the budget of the USAF. -
the F-22 contains too much technology that are sensitive. besides, its a us policy not to introduce a weapon to a region where similar tech exists. who else beside usa got stealth

True, but if the US is willing to sell us the F/A-22, of course some sensitive equipment is need to be ommited from the original design but if theres's a cooperation between ST Enginnering and Lockheed Martin about the F/A-22, they can produce F/A-22s for Singapore which is similar in performance and capability as the full variant...

-F/A-22 is supposed to be US primary air dominance fighter, this is THE plane that is supposed to keep the US a superpower, why on earth would they want to give it out so easily?

THe F22 has been around for quite some time... And since Singapore is already in the JSF project... The US might just consider if we were to request to purchase the F22s
Yes there are lotsa sensitive equipment on board...
Since both the F16 and F22 are built by Lockheed, I doubt there will be major difficulties in fitting F16 avionics equipment onto the F22s since US is concerned abt the equipment part.
IF RSAF were to acquire raptors, RMAF's Hornets and Sukhois won't stand a chance.... Our Hawkeyes can detect their takeoff and alert our raptors which can take em out with AIM-120s before they become a threat to our planes. When the raptors return to rearm and refuel, our Vipers can deal with them too and the cycle can go on....

Too bad they din produce the F-16 XL, it was quite a good aircraft too.

owning a raptor is juz a dream......since sg wans to cut the types to 2 or 3 in near future....with the current competition to replace a-4..is interesting in FI directory world air forces in sg columns it states
the rfi for replacement 4 s211s is on now....
the a-4 requirements is likely to be expanded to supersede the F-5 as well, since the government is aiming to reduce the number of types in service. .rsaf is looking 4 an asian equivalent to nftc. ( hawk?) the rfi 4 naval heli may also required to replace the uh-1.any competition is not likely until after the fighter competition. -

That F-20 was actually named F-5G before the F-20 designination was given. Was actually meant for ROCAF. Able to fire AMRAAM and stuff. It was thought that this thing was better than the F-16. Whole programme was shelved. One of the most visible differences is that the F-5 has twin afterburners while the F-20 has only one.

The picture was taken in the US when RSAF received its first Viper D Block 52 version. It was meant for publicity. It wasn't integrated with the Python 4 yet. Thus the pilots were not wearing a Dash-3 helmets albeit the helmets were black and look like a Dash-3.
Even the Vipers that first arrived in Singapore and displayed during the open house did not have the Dash-3/Python integration. It was only quite recently (from the last Pitch Black exercise) that I saw actually saw photos of Vipers with the Dash-3/Python4 integration, although none of them actually carry Python 4 to Australia for that exercise.
As for F-5S Tigers, I cannot confirm that they are already integrated with these but it should not be an issue if RSAF wants to do that. -

About the F-22, I think we can dream very hard about getting it. Cos we won't. Those things costs like USD$100 Million. Thats about almost 5 F-16s!
Moreover, considering the kinda congress the United States has and their restrictions on introducing new capabilities to our region, the chances of that is even slimmer.
The F/A-22 has capabilities now that none of us can even dream of. Eg, some of the more well known ones like the ability to classify almost every known radar system in the world, and activate appropriate measures to counter them. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Such a system will definitely not be released for Foreign Military Sales. They won't trust us not to sell this technology or remake it. -
After Singapore purchased the first batch of F-16 A/B, we had requested for the 'architecture' of the on-board computer system.
This was not given for quite a few years, until our DSTA develop a compact computer system that has double the processing capacity, and allowing a mission to be uploaded into the processor in a quarter of the time taken by the original system delivered from USA.
This resulted in the computer architecture being opened up to us, and allowed us to develop softwares that are unheard of by the USAF; and since then Singapore has been taken as an equal partner in many less strategic but still sensitive programs.
Don't doubt it, if we asked for it, it will be considered. -

The Sh is nothing but BS and only Malaysia is stupid to even consider getting it. (Doubt Kuwait will get it). Once we purchase Rafale or Typhoon, your Su-30 is nothing to us. Most Malaysians think with their MRCA, Singapore will be done for. But this is nothing but Malaysian BS. Threat? My foot.
