YourFather, that feature wasn't deleted from the old planes, it was just not implemented into the newer fulcrums. Look again at that picture of the MiG-29 that was posted.
Malaysia did not recieve the latest version of the MiG-29. They got the MiG-29As. And that picture was proof that they really got the MiG-29A which still had that "intake" protection system. -

That was after the little upgrade they had. BTW, someone said they were cheated by the Russians for selling them such a second hand plane. That means the Malaysians had ordered something better and got a rubbish thing instead?

MiG-29N? Well, I'm sure its a MiG-29N now, but whether it came as a MiG-29A or N, or an A pretending to be N. We don't know for sure... but I know one thing... it wasn't manufactured for them. Those were 2nd hand MiG-29s.

F-15E should actually be the A-15E. Since they are more often employed to move mud more than fighting other aircraft... hehe.
It seems that we might actually get them. Hopefully we won't rush things and get the best suited platform. -

there is no such official designation as A-15 unless u wan to b like spain or canada( their hornet desingation is change)...change desingnate to F/A-15E loh.....

Russian fighters too heavy if dogfight with Singapore's F-16s. Ours got better agility.
We got more quantity fighters than them.

it was reported in the janes defence weekly back then... when janes defence weekly got suspicious over malaysia claim that they are purchasing the MIG-29 M version from russia under a half barter and half cash transaction.
the janes defence weekly got suspicious because....
1.... there are no MIG-29 M version production line...
2.... to start a MIG-29 M version production line would require a minimun of at least 200 units ordered in totallity....there were no such demand due to russian economic collapse..
3.... exactly 18 MIG-29 A version fulcrums which where supposed to be chopped up for scrapped metal under the CFE force reduction treaty between russia and nato were removed from the list of disassembly... with nato consent for 'transfer' purpose....
IF janes is correct... those fulcrums flown by malaysian pilots could probably be older then the malaysian pilots themselves!!
subsequently... the fulcrum were slated for upgrading by RMAF.... for obvious reasons...
they included the following
a. a more (supposedly) efficient engine...
b. new western avionics...
c. reinforced wing structure to enable the malaysian fulcrum to carry the AA-12 adder...
the engine upgrade was relatively ok... except one fulcrum crash later dropping malaysian MIG-29 from 18 to 17 units...
the western avionics got into big trouble as it cannot be interfaced with the adder... so... the malaysians are stuck... have western avionics means no adder... get adder will mean no western high tech avionics. lots of problem there... not sure if it has been completely resolved as to date.... there have been NO confirm live firing of adder from the malaysian fulcrum...
the reinforced wing upgrade was reported completed... but the russians have withold supply of adder missile for unknown reasons... as such... it is not sure (though improbable, but not impossible for malaysia) if the malaysian fulcrum's wing will break under a high G dogfight with RSAF falcon...

The "going into dogfight" is a bit redudant.
It would have been more like
RSAF Viper: VID Track #### as Hostile Air - MiG-29. Engaging!
RSAF Viper: Target is crossing my nose, and merging. I'm gonna cut into him!
(attempts to lead turn the bandit in a head on)
RSAF Viper: Target is going hard left! I'm on his 6'! ( maintains on target's 6' and arms a sidewinder)
RSAF Viper: Fox2.......... (before he pickles the weapon, the MiG-29 attempts to make a last ditch 9G turn at low speeds...)
RSAF Viper: Errr... This is Viper 61, err. splash one MiG-29.
AWACs: Viper61, Sentry1, confirm you have splashed one MiG29??? I didn't even see a weapon's track!

Malaysians are not very prudent in their spending, they buy from a large number of sources and create a logistical nightmare for themselves, imagine this, when we manage to take out their supply of spare parts, it means one entire type of plane they cannot use! That is of course, assuming they even have an air force left after engaging ours.
On the other hand, our systems are easier to intergrate. -
The idea of going after their logistics train is good. But it is easier said then done. It means you have to strike a blow all the way to the rear of the enemy. Of course, it CAN be done, but not without certain risks. Risks thats up to the military leadership to gamble.

Agree, but I seriously wonder how big a threat their RMAF really to justify such a tatic. By the looks of it, they face overwhelming air superiority from our forces. If we can't take their supply trucks out, we can still destroy them piecemeal in the air. And of course, with free reign over Malaysia save for annoying AAA and SAMs, we can pretty much chase their PM's fleeing BMW with LGBs, impacting them close enough to rattle, but not enough to kill them. That'll be the day...

How good is their MiG-29N? Some malaysian guy say their Migs were able to outrun USN F/A-18C/D in exercises(probably wet dreaming after reading how IDF/AF thrash USN in air exercises).

Yes the MiG 29 is indeed faster then the F-18. About Mach 2.3 against Mach 1.8. Though it would be pretty useless in a dogfight as speeds only range from 250-450 knots. All in all, their preformance envelopes in terms of turning and manuverability are roughly the same. It's mainly up to the pilot.

Hrm... Honestly... Mach 1.8 and 2.3 doesn't make that much of a difference. Seriously.
The numbers itself may make it seem so. But u have to also consider the amount of distance the planes have to fly at burners to reach that speed. Usually, the higher mach number means that the acceleration is higher... but it still depends on the combat load and how much fuel it has. -
Exactly, save for the F-22, no fighter plane can maintain supersonic flight for long before running out of fuel. Most of the action still takes place in the subsonic realm. In the entire vietnam war, all the US aircraft only logged about 20 minutes of supersonic time, combined!
