I am particularly impressed with Malaysia's spending prowess to strengthen their military instead of improving on their citizen's welfare.

Actually you can't really blame them. After all, there is not much military news locally, so I don't think they SPH can afford to have a military expert in their stable for a ones' in a blue moon article.Originally posted by tripwire:please forgive them...
when it comes to military hardware... those reporters at the SPH is close to a retard....
and they sure as hell... love to show the world.. how retarded they can be....![]()

And most of the military news like Iraq they usually debate from the political angle instead looking at pure military hardware.
Oh yeah, we must also look at the readership. This is not the "Asian Defence Review" or "Janes ...." , this is the "New Paper", I think the "Land Tanks" is more for those ah pehs....
I have to admit that it is really quite difficult to get local military information. That is why I think the "Defending the Lion City" is really so good.
actually i find it incredible that after so many years of NS... we got baboons as editors or reporters in local SPH media...Originally posted by spencer99:Actually you can't really blame them. I am no at all surprised that a whole bunch of ORD'ed NSF wouldn't have much of a clue other than their scope of duties. Anyway, many see NS as paying national debt. Only true blue military nuts like us would spend time reading and researching on military technologies and stuffs.Originally posted by spencer99:I did not have a chance to read the original article, but from the extract I agree that it is grossly misleading. And how can a Apache cost USD60mn. You can buy 2 to 3 F16s for that price!
But I think those guys in SPH have to strike a balance between getting information across that is interesting to the "average" reader.
If we put what is written in this Military Nuts Forum on the New Paper, I think at least 80% will not understand or will not appreciate.
We have many years of NS, but I don't think the "typical" NS person or even SAF regular have much knowledge beyond their normal scope of duties.
It will be good to do a survey of a batch of ORDed NSFs and see how many of them can understand the meaning of :
Frigate
Stealth
MLRS
Sub-munition
Barak
Shoot-and-Scoot(spelling??)
JSF
Thailand is reported looking at acquiring E-2Cs, and this has been going on for years, except, RTAF never quite got sufficient fund to make the purchase. I sometimes wonder why do they have to have that "white elephant" carrier. I would have gone for an AEW platform first before buying a carrier.Originally posted by eurofighter:Mistakes:
Thailand: 7)RTAF does not operate any KC 135R or any mid-air
refuelling aircraft.
8 )RTAF does not operate any AEW&C
aircraft so what's there about the E-2C?
