SAF VS AAF ( Australia )
Is interesting to see how SAF match Australia.
Any comment? -
Not sure about the army, but I heard or read from one magazine that RSAF and USAF once simulate attacking Australia during one exercise. The Aussie air defence did very well to repel Singapore vipers and US eagles. Not sure how true is this though. As for army, I'm hoping someone will tell me that.

I am from Australia. From what I understand, Aust has a strong Air, normal sea and a weak land.
In Air, it has 150 F18ab,60 F111 etc..
In land , it has only 50,000 man compare to sg 320,000 men.
Anyone has more infor? -
I thought Australia had 75 F18 A/Bs and 35 F111 C/Gs.

71 Hornets - 4 crashed. Anza Andy, if you don't mind me saying, for a person supposed from Australia, I find it surprising that you don't know the Australian Armed Forces are called the ADF(Australian Defence Forces) or the numbers of Bugs and Pigs the RAAF has.

Given Australian Govt is certain to lean towards a F35 purchase, I wonder if they also secretly eyeing for the F/A22 to replace the pigs to act as the silver bullet in the RAAF ORBAT? There are some push and Carlo Kropp definitely would like to see this. He has been harping on this subject all the time in the ADF magazines. Anyway, he also suggested an interim upgrade of the pigs with a SAR radar coupled with a good stand-off weapon with the ability to go far greater distance than the popeyes. Man, if RAAF suddenly get the funding to do this, a lot of non-friendly-to-Australia countries in the 1000km radius would be panicking and won't pick a fight with Australia

Maybe when malaysia purchase and operate her Su-30 air superiority fighters , the Howard administration will like to reason the F-22 . However yet , the US may not want a steath arm race in this region as other air-superiority fighters are available.
If australia do get the raptor , i believe they will replace the hornets not the pigs. The pigs which are for long distance strike are optimum to be replaced with the JSF , which have better strike capacity than the raptors. Israel will get their JSF soon and Australia will not see a problem intergrating the poyeye onto their future JSF if they get one. -

If u will to compare australia's landmass to her armed force inventory , those numerical figures are very small for a continent. However due to the fact Australia do not face any potiential enemy ( maybe indonesia in the 60s era ) , she do not see in need to build by a very strong armed force. A welfare oriented cum agricultural based country , Australia cant afford to build up an armed force an par with western powers. The Howard administration is so big-nosed that he want to sent soldiers to support the American-led invasion. Sending 2000 soldiers , i will say thats the minimum any developed country can think off.
If we are to fight the war , sending more that 2000 soldiers overseas will not be a problem to the SAF. With the frigate , i think our amphibous forces can be escorted to anywhere in the world provided the area is secured by allied soldiers ( current gulf ) together with our transport aircrafts , 2000+ over a month cant be a problem .It will be possible, i stress again if we must fight the war. -

ANd yes, australia uses the Leopard AS1, which is a modified version of Leopard 1, i think they were delievered to Australia in 1978. . . pretty old by now. . .hmmm, and for the aussies, how many tanks make up one squadron, as in for the leopards?

the commander for the M1 tanks in gulf war back in 1991 once said that the tank could fight only with the resupply fuel trucks in tow. -
I think in terms of troop to troop comparision, the Aussie soldier BY AVERAGE is tougher, fitter and more pro than an SAF soldier. Cos most of us are NS troops unless you're talking about SAF regulars who are trained for years.
Due to the fact that most of them are caucasian, they are bigger in size. They and moves faster cos they got longer legs and are able to carry remarkable load.
Equipment wise, I would say we are almost equally equipped.
All IMO.....
One more thing, they got a pretty nice War record and their citizens hold their army with high respect. Unlike Singapore, cos everyone will definately be in the army....
