What do you guys think of the Malaysian built and i think designed ACV300?

It is not designed in Malaysia. The generic design is from the US, based on the M113, with updates and improvements. Several companies produce versions of this vehicle, with changes and or modifications. I'd saw pictures of the ACV300 armed with 30mm cannon but the one in the straits times features a ? 7.62 MG? So how many of them are armed with 30s?

Malaysia buys Norwegian ammunition
NAMMO AS of Norway and SME Ordnance SDN. BHD. (SMEO) of Malaysia have signed a long-term agreement covering co-operation on production of 25mm ammunition for the new Malaysian Armoured Combat Vehicle, ACV 300. The Malaysian Army has chosen the unique Nammo Multipurpose ammunition 25x137mm MP-SD-T MK2 and the US designed W-APFSDS-T ammunition for use in the ACV 300.
Nammo is co-operating with its strategic partner, General Dynamics Ordnance System, GD-OTS, for the deliveries under this agreement.
The co-operation between SMEO and Nammo AS covers transfer of technology and know-how from Nammo to SMEO, supplies of equipment and components, and assembly of complete rounds in Malaysia. The co-operation will give significant production and delivery possibilities for Nammo and deliveries will start already end of 2002.
Nammo?s President & CEO Edgar Fossheim expresses his satisfaction with the signing of the long-term agreement adding that the Malaysian Defence Forces will get the best ammunition available in the world market for their ACV. 300.
SMEO and Nammo already have a similar agreement giving SMEO and the Malaysian Defence forces access to Nammos 12,7mm Multipurpose ammunition through local co production by SMEO.
Nammo views the signing of the agreement covering 25mm ammunition to be a very important step in establishing itself as a long-term partner for SMEO and the Malaysian Defence Forces.
Both companies have expressed their intention to further develop the relationship to also include other ammunition requirements and to work to increase the Malaysian content of the co-operation. -
So how many ACV300 does Malaysia plan to buy? Has Malaysia officially purchased the T84? (Sorry if u guys had alreadi talked about this in previous post
) In my view, compared to the Bionix, the ACV300 is a 'sure hit' for ATGM and ordinary Tank ammunition. Just like the M113, the ACV300 has an almost 'flat' front and sides. Its basically an 'armoured box' used to transport troops. But judging from its "looks", it seemed to be better armoured than the ULTRAs.

as far as I'm concern, the Ultras are old, although they are upgraded but they are still based on the M113 framework and are still using some of the old mechanics from the M113. I dunno about the ACV300 but the M113 Ultras we have are really pushed to it's limits... -

Ahh... so the turret is meant for a 25mm gun. No wonder, I was thinking the turret look so big for such a small gun.
I noticed that the vehicle look very tall and bulky. Got such a profile, will be a ATGW magnet.
Noticed also the "large" number of smoker grendae dischargers. At least 16!!!! from the single photo from the front.
This AFV can really "smoke" out okay -
For the ACV300 - 211 vehicles of various models including 25mm, 12.7/7.62mm combo, mortar, ambulance and recovery. That's about a mechanised brigade's worth. In addition, there is a similar but older version of this vehicle - the Korean IFV (KiFV) in service - about 180 vehicles. Saw service in Bosnia (UN).

If I am not wrong this new vehicle that Malaysia purchased from Turkey is an advanced version of the venerable M113 APC. It is also better armed than the original M113s.Can I say that our M113 Ultras(both versions) are actually an old M113 APC chasis mated with a much more powerful turret? My question is how does our Utras fare against our Malysian counterparts? Please give examples and specs when comparing. Thanks

Some things noted:
1. The turret is the Thales (formerly Helio) FVT800. Looks like a 0.5 HMG with a 7.62 co-ax.

2. Smoke grenade launchers pointing everywhere. Maybe they mean to use APERS ammo to defend against infantry attacks?? Or an advanced active defense system???

3. What's with the spotlight on the turret? I thot modern night vision would have made that obsolete. It's not even infrared!
4. The bolt-on armour has been fitted. Could be ceramic or steel or a combo of the two. Prob give at 14.5mm AP protection
5. I expect a 3+8 or 2+9 crew size with centreline sitting.
I wonder what sighting system it uses. II or TI? Anyone know which 25mm turret is being used? Dragar or Sharpshooter? -

The "ULTRA" in the SAF are upgraded to the M-113 A3 standards, with Detroit Diesel Engines producing 275 hp (previously of A2 standards and firing on 212 hp Petrol Engines) and changed Allison Auto Transmission following the A3 upgrade programs available from United Defense LP

While the ACV300 produced by FNSS Defense System of Turkey has the same M113 platform but upgradable according to several different upgrade kits available.
The ACV300 manufactured for the MAF has its engine uprated to 300 hp Diesel also from Detroit, as well as matching Allison Transmission Gear Box.
Full air-conditioning and NBC protection is available for the ACV300, but nothing indicates if the MAF version will include this.
To all intent and purpose, the ACV300 would actually be identical to the improved version of the M113A3 developed by United Defense LP

The basic hull of the Ultra and the ACV300 comes from the M113 which is a Aluminium box; with add on laminate steel plate for armor protection, and composite materials available to both types.

While the ACV300 will probably be equipped with the Bushmaster 'sharpshoote' cupola armed with a 25mm gun, the ULTRA feature an Overhead Weapon System featuring a 25mm Gun without a cupola, with the gunner inside the hull of the APC/IFV.
