The LSV itself is substaining damages that are not economical.
Perhaps concentrating on re-enforced durability on intergrity of the LSV should be considered prior advancing to increment in armour.
At this rate of damage we are going, soon we'll have to pay for our meals at cookhouse. -

hmm....my friend is in guards right now ord in may...he said he has never fire a spike ever and neither has anyone else......according to him only 4 people have fired it in the testing phrase....with a 50% hit rate..... due to the other 2 wires breaking mid flight.As for the milan you used it before? haha thats good at least our troops are getting some practise!!!Originally posted by ah san:no problem bro

i admit abt the vulnerablity to bullet spray and no amt of speed is going to help but the fact is how close the aggessor would haf to get to the Lsv...but saying that the worse enemy the LSV would haf will be artillery bombardment and Infrantry ambush
as for missile fire think there was some misconception 4 km is not the min distance for spike, if my memory serves me rite..its abt 2km,as for the milan, it can be around 1.7km dun quote me but thats the dist they use for live firing at LCK
BTW spike does not neccesary require LOS, it's got a remote control feature with warhead view to lock on to target.

remember once the CGO juz took the LSv for a ride in Ossie land then the engine die half way..dunno wat he did.?..we juz landed the day b4..He did not go thru flyer driver course then!! guess who had to write his damage statment my fren..
another time some MP was driving the LSV in LCK ,tot that the LSV was Auto geared then drove happily around the terrain in 1ST GEAR...my fren seating behind him told me he was deaf after that cos the engine was over heating and growling aloud!!!

they already built a $32,000 LSV course to train LSV Drivers.
but guess what ..... the incident i mentioned took place on the course itself......
sad ain't it.

alas kanna sabo guards...nonetheless i 've served my timefor ns that is !!!

I don't know how Col. Neo is like, but I see his actions well rewarding. To lead men by example.
During my sit test, i got elected Section Commander 3 times, I was detail IC thru out the sit test, and a navigator therefore have to lead them.
I'll have to say leading men isn't an easy job when you have a sadist PS with you. he pull out all kinds of stunts and drills you can think of. we ran and ran non stop from check point to checkpoint.
When I got elected Sec Comd., I assign people to perform their task, all of them just stood there and gave me this shag face.

lets juz say we are well into the hundreds and yes ready to be deployed. in fact its being used in EAST timor now..
ER refers to Extended Range (8KM?), different missile fired from helicoptors, I belive.
Spike LR is the Long Range, or the 4KM Spike we use.
In Israel, they have the Spike Medium Range (MR), 2km version. Spike Short Range (SR), or LAW, is in developement there as well.

As for the LSV, I'm sure its cross country performance is better than the older G wagon used with the Milan ATGM. -
Just a though, if bullets are already so bad on the LSV, imagine a RPG hit. More likely given the exposed nature of the LSV, the RPG will end up physically striking the crew and blast through them, splattering viscera and entrails all over the place.

I remember when they first received the LSV in Kranji back in 1996. Wah..the pioneer batch of LSV people macam damn senang sial...they were still testing out the vehicle and all...still in the trial stage...Everytime my team and I walk back to our bunk always pass by and see them relaxing or just testing out their brand-new toy...and we gotta end up cleaning our vehicles like hell...ah well...
The LSV would be better if they slap some body armour on the crew though...I wonder if it would be effective in an airfield raid... Insert by Chinook....The sight of 5-8 LSVs running amok on an enemy airfield would be solid sial.... -

hi all, m rather surprised and overwhelmed by the interest in the LSV
k, am not too sure abt the spike version but was trained that target range was abt 2-4 km even though was told that it can go up to 7-8 km so i reckon LR?

"fatigue" is one thing but on foot is another...nothing much to the normal guardsman rite...well think of the weapon load on a LSV...imagine it all being carried by a 3 man crew!!! dun even wanna think of the supply load!!!!man!!!

running amok sure looks impressive but to avoid getting into each vehicle's path, AGL and MG line of fire would really take co-ordination and practise!!!

in the begining, was told that if anyone ask wat we do in army juz tell them "guards" then when i ord they say can oly disclose simple role done and not numbers(total trained crew and vehicles), formation and tactics...
basically use wat is publised as guidelines...for eg u might noe the weaponary and vehicle specs but the normal combat SOP is not disclosed..(duh)
yes can air transport LSV but each time min and max no??!!

One dun have to be very close to hit an LSV, an MG creating a beaten zone for the LSV to drive through enuff liao, it'lll become a abitor. The LSV survability depends on it's speed to avoid bullets, which is insane. Under enemy fire it's not even allowed to take a single hit and that's not going to hold up for long. In a sense, the LSV is nothing more then an overglorified dune buggy with the protection of a motorbike, whoever driving it is entirely exposed.
The only way to survive in an LSV is to avoid taking a single hit from enemy fire, no matter what caliber at all. I'm not sure that's even a realistic option in modern warfare. What will tank commanders do when they notice a missile flying towards them? The common tatic is to spray the MG in the direction of the operator to cause him to flinch and make the missile go of course. Unfortunately the pple in the LSV dun have any kind of cover to duck under, being exposed in their open frames and MG bullets come rippin thru...

Is there any vehicle out there on shelf which provide mobility , agility , firepower and protection at the same time???
My answer is no . They have to sacrifice a factor for another. Sad to say , many of the world's most agile war machine lack of armour. The Japanese Zero is one example. They sacrifice armour for speed which made the aircraft a spotlight in WW2.
Our LSV is made for mobility and Agility , thus very unfortunate , sacrifice some firepower and alot of protection .
Btw , for those in Guards , will u all be issued NVGs and body armour in combat??? Im rather impressed when seeing those allied forces in combat, their government do make an effort to equip each and everyone of them NVGs and body armour. Their small arms are modified to enchance accuracy . I have seen photos of rifles and even SAWs equiped with 3x scope .
I believe if Mindef will to adopt such measures , our troop survivability will increase tremendously.
