Hi, i'm relatively new here so dont scold me if this is at the wrong place or if my qns had been asked before.
i want to know if you can carry around a knife in your pocket (ard 3-5") as a self defence weapon or a EDC (everyday carry) utility knife (folding 3"-5"blade).
#1. will i be arrested if an officer does a random spot check and i declare a knife on me?
this is of course if that person is not a dickhead waving the knife in public and threatning people.
i would really appreciate it if some kind soul could put a link to an official website stating the lagality of the situation. =)

Why you carry a knife in pocket ? - think police and judge believe you need a knife for self-defence - you better be james bond !!!

Are you sane?
Persons conveying arms, etc., may be apprehended without warrant in suspicious circumstances
30. —(1) If any person is found carrying or conveying any guns, arms, naval or military stores, explosives or explosive precursors in such a manner or under such circumstances as to afford reasonable grounds for suspicion that they may be used for any unlawful purpose dangerous to the public peace, any person may without warrant apprehend the person so found and detain him in custody.
(2) Any person who is apprehended by a person not being a police officer shall be immediately taken to the nearest or other police station or be handed over to a police officer.
I'm not a law expert, but this should be covered under the "Arms and Explosives Act"
http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/non_version/cgi-bin/cgi_getdata.pl?actno=2003-REVED-13&doctitle=ARMS%20AND%20EXPLOSIVES%20ACT%0A&date=latest&method=part&segid=1059635728-000004
Note the following clauses:
(b) bayonets, swords, daggers, spears and spearheads; and
(c) such weapon, accessory, or other article or thing, as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, specify to be arms for the purposes of this Act or any part thereof;
eh.. quite curious also.. wat abt SOG?
If you carry around a utility knife or tool, thats kinda acceptable. But carrying purely a knife around in singapore is utter stupidity.
like that if u go caesar to buy a sword n on your way home u get inspected by a police officer how?

Might as well ask what if go robinsons to buy that set of cooking knives how?
I remember the rule of thumb stated in an old newpaper report is that whether it is legal or not depends on the intent of the user...or accused if U prefer...
like for the case of the cooking knives...as long as U have the receipt to prove that U just bought it...and do not have any intention for it except to bring it back home...I dont think U will have a problem...
I do personally bring my diving knife out of singapore and when I return...I always declare it with the customs people and tell them its for diving...they dun usually have an issue with it...of course it helps that I have one whole bag of equipment to show for it...
now...for the idea of keeping a concealed weapon/knife...I dont think self-defence is a good reason...
If you use a knife in your self-defence, somebody inadvertently gets killed, it's premeditated murder.
You might as well carry a Samurai sword for self-defence.
If you believe that somebody would cause endangerment to your life, you make a police report and let the police handle it. You are not the "Highlander" and this is not medieval Scotland.

so why is it singapore sells knives like spyderco ect.... and even camping knives at specialty shops and Giant (yes, the Giant supermarket) if we are not allowed to carry?
dont be ridiculous .. i'm talking about emergencys .. not carrying a samurai and walk around .. thats retarded ..
kilfer>>> hey thanks for the link ...

In that case how do people even manage to use parang in singapore?
Cannot be smuggle into singapore what cos parang is so big sure get caught if you smuggle into singapore
The army use machette, don't know where to buy them.
But there are parangs made with lead pipes that are split open, with about three inches at one end still round for the handle. The flat portion is sharpened to form the blade.
