Five manufacturers from the United States, France, Russia and Europe have submitted their aircraft for the NGF project which will replace the A-4SU Skyhawks and eventually the F-5S Tigers currently in service with the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
Defence industry sources told The Malay Mail that the three aircraft – Boeing's F-15E Strike Eagle, the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and the Eurofighter Typhoon – are the leading contenders for the NGF project. The contract is expected to be signed by the end of the year.F/A-18E/F? What a surprise..I thought Rafale should have been in the list of top three.
Since the Super Hornet is on the Malaysian shopping list, the Strike Eagle (to be known as F-15S in Singapore service) and Typhoon are said to be most probable choice for Singapore.
The Malay Mail learnt that if Singapore chooses the Typhoon, the Storm Shadow will be included in the package as part of a government-to-government deal.
It is also believed that Singapore's Typhoons will be armed with the Meteor beyond-visual-range (BVR) air-to-air missile, which is being developed for the Royal Air Force (RAF).
If Singapore chooses the Strike Eagles – which most pundits believe they will – it is expected that it will be cleared to purchase long range air-to-surface missiles, the AGM-84E SLAM and AGM-142 Raptor.Wah, got SLAM and Raptor
The Strike Eagle has a much better chance being selected for the NGF due to the "special" relationship between Singapore and the US. If it does proceed to select the Boeing aircraft, it could strike a deal with the US to lease Strike Eagles in service with the US Air Force for training until its own aircraft are delivered.
The Singapore NGF is expected to be in service by 2007, almost at the same time when Malaysia's Super Hornets and Sukhoi Su-30MKMs are expected to be delivered.
hahaha... the 15s are already in the skies of singapore.Originally posted by Moonstriker:i would like to see the typhoons and eagles in the skies abv mi sch instead of the tigers and skyhawks abv my sch..
helloOriginally posted by Hornet145:More US planes......hmm less likely. I read from somewhere that Singapore wants the source codes to be released in case the need of upgrading. US never release its codes, so it's out unless it changes its mindset.
I don't think our government want another episode of having our equipments locked in US because no one in our region have that weapon. US seems to be the only country who will retain the weapons even though its paid for just because of its dumb logic.
Just go for the European ones or Russian ones since they don't mind to give full tech transfer with all weaponries made available.
A4s and F5s are good aircrafts, I wonder why some of you guys hate them.
I've seen F-16s take off all the time. During my stint in 142 sqn (techicians loan), I saw a F-16A took off with military power and switch to full afterburner just after it left ground. It's deafening and I'm just 100+m from the EOR (end of runway).
It went vertical and disappear in a few seconds.Nice display. When F-16s take off, the sound cause the base to have minor earthquake whereas other aircrafts never cause anything like that. Just imagine the power.

they are good... but not good enuf to comfortably take a distinct edge over the adversery.Originally posted by Hornet145:A4s and F5s are good aircrafts, I wonder why some of you guys hate them.

Multi roles aircraft cannot take over dedicated roles. I say that becos I've experience that during an exercise. A4s keep hitting the targets but F-16s misses a few. That A4 also happen to be under me.
Hopefully, over the years, the software will improve so that dumb bombing will be accurate even for multi role fighters.
Dumb bombing = no laser guidance
ya but the pilots do not spend all their time bombing they have to spilt their time between wild weasel, bombing and fighter training so all in all they should get less time doing attack runs then the A4 pilots who though not having as much fly time have alot more time training their bombingsOriginally posted by Moonstriker:Vipers doing CCIP and CCRP bombing accurate wad.....
it might be bad for usOriginally posted by duotiga83:Eagles wld b great, but do u knoe that indonesia is also getting to buy flankers 2? that's sounds bad for us rite?
Because F-16s and F-15s are enormously different. Just because the number is a difference of 1 doesn't mean its a "why not" case.Originally posted by doghouse837:i play www.area00.com
and i think F-15e would be a better choice for singapore
cause it can bomb and have air defence
its good for defence and offence
so i think its going to be a good deal to have F-15e
as we already have f-16 in service
why not F-15???
You certainly have a good memory. This happened last August/ September in that forum.Originally posted by Innocent_Malaysian:no, i am not tomel.
im just a lurker at AFM. just saw ur posts and commented.
ask anyone here..they know im not tomel..
so you are the crxionga353 guy?Originally posted by eurofighter:You defintely have a good memory. This happened last August/ September in that forum.![]()
Yeah. I was a rookie then.Originally posted by Innocent_Malaysian:so you are the crxionga353 guy?
the one that always lost to tomel and the gang in debates?
Originally posted by Joe Black:Our A4s don't bomb all the time, there's something else. I asked my f-16 friend about the missing target thing b4 and he told me that f-16 is too fast. It makes sense but doesn't that make the f-16 useless. Maybe I should ask my f-16 pilot friend. Forget it. There's once that one f-16's bombs completely missed the target island. The ordnance people can't even find the bomb. (inert won't explode, just smoke). Singapore A4s are just a skyhawk on the outside but not sure about the inside. We are phasing it out not becos its useless but because there isn't much airframe hours left.
I am suprised that F-16s missed their targets. I thought the Viper's radar/computer continuously calculates the impact point (CCIP) and it is one of the most accurate in the world. Vipers can also do blind bombing using the Continuosly computer Release Point (CCRP) attack mode. It also has a dive-toss attack mode. I wonder how the Super Skyhawk's avionics compares since I thought ST Aero upgraded them to be almost as capable as a A version Viper. With the C version, I thought the Vipers would fair a lot better than A4SUs. Could it be that the Vipers pilots were still pretty inexperience in using the Vipers for blind or visiual bombing with dumb bombs?
