Warrant Officers

May I know what are the primary jobs of warrant officers?
You must have at least 10yrs of specialist exp in order to be consider for WO promotion right?? not mentioning oso leadership qualities and so on.... -

but i think only in school then they got chance to command platoon or company level. -

From what I know, some warrant officers are really expert in their field... I know one who came poly to study and are graduating with me soon... And wow, he is top student man....Since 1st year till now all modules straight ADs (Distinction)... Do you think WOs like him should be consider for commissioning to be officer?
Anyway, it seems that Warrant Officers play second fiddle to the officers in the SAF.... -
warrant officers are just specialist who finished 10 oyrs of service as a spec and are kept by the SAF for their so called exp. Where actually, it's tt they cant find any employement elsewhere in the private sector, so u stay on in the SAF.
They are a bunch of losers!!! -

Hmmm... it was a view when I was a NSF that the "Lao Chek" were "Life Sentences".. that is, they were lifers in the army... also no civilian skills which can let them be employable outside the military.
However, one of the things that made the NSFs look at them with some disrespect and sometimes contempt, was that a few of these Lao Cheks were in the Mess most of the time guzzling the duty-free booze... and a lot of them were pot-bellied, boorish and very rude to everyone.
We did not have a good impression of them at all.

they are there to remind the young ones like us that there were tougher days
they are the cadre, the 1st or 2nd generation progeny of the Israelis' training
they are the heart of discipline, the so called "elders" of the force
even myself as an officer find it difficult not to go to them for advise
believe me, they find it tough to call young punks like me 'Sir' but they do it in good spirits and are willing to help
they deserve all the respect they are accorded -
are RSM usually WOs???

And their job differs from the Officer in the way that they are the link between the officers and the men.....the officers have their own mess and stuff while the WO's eat with the men.Currently i think the WO's are being given bigger responsiblity to help with the manpower shortage as they wont be leaving like most NSF -

think they will fight with you on the battle ground?
hey let's face it, our commanders fight war from their CP.
WO and specialists fight it out face to face.
so give the WO their due respect, not just critise them because they make you run around the parade square during CO/RSm
parade. on the parade square, he who holds theyellow "stick" is the "king".
i remember once during my army days, my RSM asked my COto take out his rank and run around the parade square two rounds for taking on the phone in the middle of Bn parade. that's wat i call power. -

heard that a WO can last his whole career days in the SAF till retirement age, 50-55. While an Officer, if not holding critical position will be out of service by ard 40...
is tt true?? -
Yeah! warrant will retire at the age of 50~55 but not all specialist will get selected for the second phase(warrants)....
however officers retire at the age of 42 but yet they might get jobs in civilian government sectors
so no much diff hehe

During my last incamp training my mates and I were surprise to find our lao check slim down to half of his previous size!
At 1st still tot he was sick or what.. then later hear from the clerk that he was ordered to reduce weight and keep fit or lost his job.. -

yah..... our Ah Gong said that all regulars are to be fit, must pass IPPT and not overweight lor... I know it from some navy WOs... They give you a time frame to get fit if u are overweight ot wat, if not then your career might be jeopardise... Think started from 1 year ago...Originally posted by Paladin:Not anymore I think...
