Now now, it truly smacks of childishness and jealosy to make fun of their truly asia tourism campaign. They have a better message than ours for their tourism campaign.
As for their military purchases, I must remind everyone that they are using their purchases to seel palm oil. If any military conflict happens, it will be up to them to start it, so they know when is the timetable. We are the defenders, not the aggressors.
So if they buy the stuff, and pay it with palm oil, it benefits them. It does not matter if the stuff is second rate. It is enough for them to be happy, and make money on the side.
They have purchased Migs from Russia, Subs from France, Radar System from Switzerland, Art from SA, the ASTROS from Brazil, ACV from South Korea, Tanks from Poland, Fighters from USA, Guns from Pakistan.
I see no possible reason for such a wide spread arms purchase if they really intend an invasion. However, I see at least 1 billion worth of palm oil sold that way.
So as an invading army, that is not a threat. But as a detterence force and a credible defensive army, it is sufficient to deter potential invader. And with the invader deterred, they can continue to focus on economic matters, such as the ascension of China and India ...
The rest of ASEAN is in worst shape compared to Malaysia when it comes to economic ability to challenge China and India. Even Malaysia can't go head on against the 2 gaints. So they use their military purchase to sell palm oil, restructure their economy to move up the value chain and also new direction such as services, tourism, finance, biotech and education.
So I don't think the average Malaysian (except for that innocent fella) gives a hoot about their military. They have other worries. -

Thus , no matter Singapore is the defender or wat , they have an edge which straight away , we are at disadvantage. Thus we need new technology to reduce uncertainties , if deterence fail , we shld be able to conduct a first strike. I will not expect the international comittee to point out that Singapore is an aggressor , if there is a large scale ''training'' movement at Negri S during tense period. -

if that AVMT 300 is really that good as is claimed in the papers... surely not only would malaysia be interested in purchasing it...
i think every SEA nations including thailand, indonesia, singapore and perhaps even brunei would love to have it....

No, singapore will not get the Tomahawks because such weapons would be violating the MTCR (Missile Technology Control Regime), of which USA is a member.

if its not accurate at all, it wouldn't hit ANYTHING worthwhile... if it was, it depends on our ability to carry on with contingency plans (which i'm quite confident of). either way, its something u live with. we can bomb them back if we had similar capabilities, but is it meaningful to? does it enhance our overall strategy or does it open a whole new political can of worms? we'll never know.

Ermm CX ,i think u are misunderstanding mi. I didnt state anything abt the missile on HDBs. All i said is that we will be in shit if the missile strike any on the bases in mainland singapore. Hmm ,frankly the Tomahawk thing was said half jokingly . However to add on , the TLAM was evaluated to be intergrate into the Collin SSK of the Australian. Sea Based Storm Shadow will be ideal , however it is still in developement. -

Once again , i have faith on our SAF jus like anyone else , however all that i did , was to briefly explain our can that missile do to a dense population , if in smart hands of course.

actually, cluster munition do not cause that much damage... the idea is to pot-hole an air-field and as i mentioned before, its not impossible to get the same airfield up and running in a matter of hours with commercially available solutions...

That weapons platform is a detterence. If they are really wanting to be aggressive, they would have gone with getting 20-30 scuds. After all, there is nothing stopping N korea from selling that stuff to Malaysia (and the USA could not stop the delivery of the scuds from N Korea to Yemen)

Wrong .. NS is 300km away from Singapore. If we conduct a first strike on a country who is having training manuevers far from the border, it is a sign that we are the aggressor. If they do the manuevers somewhere like Batu Pahat, than maybe.
The MAF conducts their armour training at PD .. which is in NS .. so if our planners use NS as the trigger point, we would be at war by now. -

You are absolutely right, thats why I am saying that all their purchases are for defence and deterrence purporses (as well as selling palm oil)
They got the weapons, but are they threatening anyone with it? Do they keep mentioning it in their media? Do they provoke anyone with it? So lets just keep a level head .. the arms salesmen all over the world has a job selling weapons. If we overreact everytime one of them sell a weapon to our neighbours, we will grow broke pretty soon. -

What makes you think that they are boasting to us?
They are just justfiying to their own population that they bought the equipment. Unlike Singapore, which 70% of the electorate can not vote, Malaysian government can lose seats to their opposition. Hence they need to tell their people why they are spending the money and what they are using to pay for it. Spend too much, and their people can protest (unlike Singapore, with 4.5% unemployment, no one complain about the FT)
They can not match SAF unless their % GDP they spend on their military match ours. And even then, we have decades, where the budget of the military exceed the rest of our ASEAN neighbours. So do you think they are boasting? Nope. I don't -
