Try reading 'Total War 2006' by Simon Pearson. Its a book about a theoretical history all the way till 2006. As the name suggests, this book is about assymmetrical warfare. It shows the weaknesses in the western style of warfare, and some of the tactics used by the bad guys are.... intriguing. The ending is shuddering
, by the way... This guy has done his research, and this book is one of my favourites. I rate it well above any of Tom Clancy's books, even Red October. -

and don't get trapped by the rest of the shallow idiots reading it and start fantasizing about total war, metal and explosions...
the REAL lessons the book teaches are POLITICAL...
many of its lessons remains relevant to this day. -
oh forgot to add that i was actualli more looking for books on infantry tactics during those wars...

The Arab-Israeli Wars - Chaim Herzog
The Sword and the Olive - Martin Van Creveld, a critical history of the IDF. Good book in my opinion.
Secret Soldier - Col. Muki Betser. About the author's experiences in the IDF special forces. -

though much more then just killing and beating the other guy to pulp
and i've read Secret Soldier - Col. Muki Betser. About the author's experiences in the IDF special forces. pretty good book but kinda old.
