We will get our NGF almost at the same time as ur SU-30MKM and SH , thus isnt an issue whelther who get wat first. The SU-30MKM and SH is to better neutralize our airforce ( with the fact that the MiGs and SH will be trade in ) , thus without the SU-30 now , we still have the upperhand.Originally posted by HARIMAU:RSAF need to beef up their fleets with newer fighters soon-Malaysia set to received 18 SU 30MKM (confirmed sale) and up to 18 FA18F by early/mid 2006.To lesser extent even the so call poorer (borrowing some members thoughts) Indonesia set to get their first SU 27SK and SU 30MK by end of this year.An F16s just wont do anymore........................
And 2012 or so (in order to received the first F35 ???) -a long way to go.....stop gap fighters must be procure soon.BTW F15E(S) aint a match for RMAF new bad boysTyphoon or Rafale....should gave RSAF the much needed 'edge'.
Malaysia shall seal the SU30MKM deal during Putin visit in July or LIMA 2003 along with the proposed FA18F.

Uh huh ok whateverOriginally posted by HARIMAU:I wonder why most of the boys here just too arrogant to accept the facts.Regardless of what ur comments on the RMAF MRCA - still it is undeniable by 2006 SU30MKM shall patrol malaysian airspace. Not to mentioned the ultra modern FA18F (second operator after USN?).if you guys got access to the BATM forum-you'll noticed that the MIG 29N WILL NOT BE TRADE IN -infact full MINDEF statements today clearly stated that the Russian will help RMAF to further upgrade the 29N to the SMT(N) standard. That's multirole MIG 29 for u boys.....hence armed with KH 27,KH 29 ,KH 31 etc.
Face it! Sings economy not as good as it used to be.........and F15 in whatever guise aint no match for SU30MKM or FA18F.Heard abt the phased array radars BARS???
well said.....well said.......as for the RFP.......if we next yr procurement of F-15T, all i could say is we r in the same situation as the Koreans........wadever the rsaf gets.........we'll have to wait n c........Originally posted by foxtrout8:We will get our NGF almost at the same time as ur SU-30MKM and SH , thus isnt an issue whelther who get wat first. Abt Indonesia , i dun realli care whelther they have the SU-30 anot , their logistic will need a miracle to meet the standard.
For the Malaysian SU , all i can say is .....''welcome to the air superority arena'' and congratulation on turning ASEAN into a more balanced region.....
Come on Harimau - if you are really ex-MAF, you should know better than that. 18 of each won't cover all airspace - why not 60 of each, if you know what I mean. Besides, its a never ending story that benefits the arms suppliers only. Imagine, a year from now when Singapore decides on its next fighter aircraft replacement, the forums will be flooded with comments, and the cycle continues right? Isn't the MAF's objective to prevent a war as well?Originally posted by HARIMAU:I wonder why most of the boys here just too arrogant to accept the facts.Regardless of what ur comments on the RMAF MRCA - still it is undeniable by 2006 SU30MKM shall patrol malaysian airspace.

Hmm , maybe should we purchase the same equipment as wat malaysia purchase??? Upgrade it ourselve , intergrate israel technology into it?? Maybe to boost the ratio , we make our purchase 60??Originally posted by HARIMAU:I wonder why most of the boys here just too arrogant to accept the facts.Regardless of what ur comments on the RMAF MRCA - still it is undeniable by 2006 SU30MKM shall patrol malaysian airspace.

Kind of Figures why we produce our own spares and maybe even sell them to embargoed countries. But yes making their air show a success might be 1 of the reasons. As for the Palm oil well i havent read enough about econmics to really comentOriginally posted by kenhor:The Malaysians are buying (or announcing) this purchase not for them to gloat over singapore. That is a waste of RM1billion just to gloat. They have other plans.
Do you know that LIMA, their aerospace show is coming again. They have to announce a big deal to justify the show. So by announcing that the purchases will happen, the russians will have to take up a big slice of the show, and bring lots of hardware to show off. In fact, maybe some of the surprises that the Iraqis used during GWII will be on display!
The americans, will also be there, to show their F18s. So they will be there in force as well. The French, the Indians and the Brazilians will all be there.
With all the hardware out in the open, the Thais, Philippinos, Indonesians, ARABs, and whoeverelse will also visit to have a look see. Who knows, lots of deals may be made there.
So why make Lima so successful at the cost of RM1billion? Who is running the 2 SEAs arms and aerospace shows? Singapore and Malaysia right? So they definately want to make their show as good as ours. And definately it will be cheaper as hotel rooms in Langkawi are cheaper than hotel rates in Singapore. So they can bring in more visitors from all over to make the event a success. (not to mention, have a holiday on the island)
The second reason is to sell more palm oil.
The third reason is that USA is not a reliable supplier of weapons to lots of countries. They often embargo critical spare parts. So buying russian makes lots of sense if your most likely advesary may be a USA supplied opponent. This is something that lots of militaries in the world are now worried about.
So don't just look at a plane on plane angle. There is usually more to it than that.
