Will there be a difference in "attitude"

when, let's say, the PM or the SM's grandson or any other minister's son is enlisted for National Service...
will they be dealt with the same like other enlistees or different?

For those NSmen with "White horse" status out there, there is an official stamp "WH" on the front page of the reserve service booklet to identify them by the brigade/unit Chief Clerk.

Hey..we are fighting the same battle and in the same uniform.
Does that mean that if we are fighting the same war, they are the ones to be saved first? or they would be the ones at the back looking upon us as a meat shield?

My batch got one. When booking in/out, all the other companies march to/from the jetty with full pack ( old tekong camp 3 ) Damn shack....but got one company sit tonner -

i think in terms of policy mindef does not haf special policies for these so called white horses, or at least they dun wan to admit to it.
but we r all working under someone else.. or wif another person.. so inevitably, when we realise this person is some guy high up there's son, there wil be this tendency to try to treat him better, cos even tho u urself believe in fairness for all and equal treatment, u cant be sure tts wat everyone around u thinks. o cos u can still stand up for wat u believe.
i guess they cant realli make the difference in treatment so obvious. the only thing they can do to avoid all these is to ...take him out of combat service using one reason or another, so that there will be less chances of comparison, unless o cos the son himself wishes to go thru everything. and i believe the son himself does play a part in the kind of treatment he receives. if he behaves like a white horse, he wud most likely get the white horse treatment. if he does not want such treatment, chances r his superior wil be more willing to treat him equally.. more willing doesnt mean will.
as to where all these sons go, i guess meritocracy still comes in.
call me naive.. but i like to believe ppl r professional at our military service. makes me feel safer too.

The difference between a normal recruit and one with a “WH” indicator is that a normal recruit is from a regular average family; while a “WH” is from a family who is either financially or politically strong enough to create “hell” if anything untoward happen to this “WH” Recruit.
In the “WH” category, there will be those from the Upper Class, who are sons of Ministers; while those from the Lower Class are those from wealthy families, Senior Government Officials, Senior SAF Officers.
A second lieutenant, who had just got his rank, will probably oversee the “live firing” of normal recruits, with perhaps his OC overseeing the shoot occasionally.
While a Battalion CO will probably make an appearance when a “WH” recruit (especially one from the Upper Class) is involved in a “Live Firing” exercise.
The path of each will differ quite dramatically, with the Upper Class “WH” assured of Senior Military Rank – DPM jumped from Lt Colonel to Brigadier in less then 4 Years; while those in the Lower Class “WH” may not necessarily be at OCS.
Some are born with more then a “Silver Spoon”, while others have to make do with a wooden spatula. -
So much for meritoracy... and all this time, those Rear Echlon $%^$@#$ (Military jargon) will send us forward to die while they stay in their bunkers... grrr....

It is not a matter of SAF policy that things are like this. It is just individual officers and WOSEs covering their asses.
Think for a moment if you were a batallion CO or SM. Your duty in peace is to train your men to the highest standards so that they will survive and prevail in war. However, if everytime you push this particular subordinate who happens to be a "WH" you get hit by shit, would you not be tempted to just ease off a little?
And so it begins. Slacking off is not confined to lower ranks. The right thing to do would be to push on and damn the consequences, knowing that your duty to your men is sacred and it is in that WH's best long term interest. But war is so far away and the easy path is there.
Again, the SAF has no official policy that things should be like this, quite the opposite in fact. Individual commanders are simply not doing their jobs. This ranges from unit commanders who do not push the WH's, to personnel officers who assign them to easier tasks. After all, you would not want a minister storming in asking why his son just lost his toes in the Combat Engineers after dropping a bridge section on them or was shot in a live fire exercise. Just assign him to a staff position and keep your career safe.
To fix this we need officers with backbone. It is not uncommon for a person to be brave enough to assault a bunker, yet too cowardly to open his mouth. Unfortunately, Singaporean culture encourages this. So this shit just keeps rolling. -

seemed that Lau Lee was visiting his accursed son at SAFTI.. then he mentioned something about lots of dead leaves everywhere (i mean, hell! trees will drop leaves no matter how much area-cleaning you do!)
within a week, there were no more trees near that part of SAFTI
then there was this related rumour...
Lau Lee's son kena area-cleaning in SAFTI like the rest... parents' visit day, he complain to Lau Lee about the leaves... and within a week, no more trees!

You got to be kidding if the Son did any area cleaning.
He had a body guard living in the same room 24 hours a day, and on hand during training.
The best part is that while everyone at OCS is being trained in the physically demanding role TO BE an Officer, he was being trained to be a General.
Did he take on any role as an Officer during training ?
He was observing the entire training exercise from a "helicopter" perspective.
Which officer will be qualified to grade his performance ?
