Hey guys,
I've enlisted into SCDF in Feb. I was enlisted as Pes C9L3. I had 5 weeks Modified BRT in NSTI and have been posted out. I am Pes C9L3 because of Asthma. My last Asthma attack was in 2010-2011. It isn't severe aswell. Recently, I've talked to my Sir to upgrade my PES status and he told me to carry on as he'll send me to other courses. I already had my Specialist (Sent by CMPB) Memo saying that my Asthma is well controlled. The Memo goes like the medication i'm on and my current asthma status. I went to the MO in my Unit and they told me that i will most probably stay as C9L3 as long as i'm using the Steroid Inhaler (The Brown Asthma Pump)(Preventer). From my knowledge, anyone who is diagnosed with asthma will receive that Inhaler and from what i know, there's quite a number of people in Pes A/B with asthma. Why am i not allowed to upgrade my PES ? Is there any way i could upgrade my PES? cause i'm really keen to do combat vocation as my sir encouraged. The Steroid Inhaler is long term right. Sigh.

I've already had a Memo from the Specialist that my Asthma is well controlled. I'm just wondering what do i need to state in the memo and what test do i have to go through to get the MO to upgrade my PES. I'm sure everyone that has asthma will be prescribed with the Brown Inhaler.
You will and must get a hospital specialist to write a specialist memo to verify and certify that you are fit enough and recovery well so as to upgrade PES to combat-fit.
As the saying goes, "No specialist memo, no talk. Got specialist memo, got talk."
Please submit the hospital specialist memo to the camp doctor to assess and process.
Okay so what if i got a specialist memo noting that i'm qualified for physical training and such but i'm still prescribed with the brown inhaler. Do you think the MO will upgrade my pes eventhough the doctor said that i'm physically fit?

basically when there're doubts or slight chance that your condition might deteriorate, they will play the safe side and not have you on frontline service..just in case.
Because if u're running around saving people in a fire or something and your asthma acts up, they will have to be responsible for what happened + have to rescue u also. In a life threathening scenario, this is dangerous. So they rather play super safe.
Basically, i'm already approved by 2 doctors to actually go to a combat fit vocation. It's just that the steroid inhaler that is stopping me from upgrading my pes. Anyone willing to share what to say to my specialist to write whatever he has to write on my memo which will convince the MO as they're NSF's too right? They also wanna protect their backside.
