wake is also caused by the bubbles frm the props but shldnt be that much. Also they seemed to have aimmed the torp way way too fast!!Anything else ar?? hmm....the destroyer would have and should have blown the sub up many many times!!Originally posted by Kevin-1982:Anyone want to point out the errors?
The torpedo fired by U-571 leaves a wake,so it is steam-driven.But in reality during the period depicted in the show, the Ubootwaffe had switched over to the T-II electric torpedo which did not leave a wake.
I also find it unbelievable that the German destroyer can miss at point blank range...
How come U-571's diesel engines are repaired so fast? With a skeleton crew some more...
Any more errors ???
Ya,but the show is fictional.Originally posted by warspite:The main error is that the Enigma code was never retrieved by the Americans. Although this was somewhat mentioned at the end of the show to give credit to the British who captured the Enigma codes, it was too little too late, nobody remembers them anyway!
I do know that when this show was fisrt released,, it caused a considerable amount of indignant among the British war veterans and the British public as well. To them, it was a rip-off of the gallantry of the Royal Navy, in which they have an immense pride in, and I dare say still do.
Ah, If only more of our countrymen could have more of such pride in our Armed Forces...
errr no need sonar to hear the pop...hydrophone can liaoOriginally posted by foxtrout8:The submarine dive to an undesirable depth , it sounds like pressure on a cola can .....this unwanted sound is enough for the German destroyer's sonar to pick them up and pin point their location in almost real time - or im i wrong that the Germans dun have sonar for their destroyer.... Someone pls enlighten mi abt that , thX.
For modern day submariner , it is still taboo to go beyond a certain depth as it will cause unwanted sound produce by pressure acting on the submarine , it will betray their position ....
I dun realli get this part ....... pls elaborate.Originally posted by |-|05|:just that they do it when they think got no 1 around....or when passing under a layer
what Doenitz said.....it's due mainly to the density of the water i think not too sure about that....Originally posted by foxtrout8:I dun realli get this part ....... pls elaborate.
K , thx u had enlighten mi on it , are u submariner or planning to be one? In fact its the first time i come across the term 'layer'....Originally posted by Doenitz:Layer means thermal layer or thermocline.I explain it very simply.Basically, when a sub hides under a layer,it is less likely to be detected.
The intensity of the sound wave made is reduced as it pass through a thermal layer, whoever is listening cannot pick it up.
just read tom clancy. . .Originally posted by foxtrout8:K , thx u had enlighten mi on it , are u submariner or planning to be one? In fact its the first time i come across the term 'layer'....
I must be ashamed , i read that book years ago and missed every piece of that infomationOriginally posted by laser51088:just read tom clancy. . .
guided tour around an ssn or something like that. mentions it many times. these layers are favourites for submariners.
as well as a tank bullet causing an explosion.Originally posted by kenhor:Actually, the explosion of the E-Boat class destroyer was the most dissapointing part of that scene. If the torpedo hit, there will be an explosion, followed by a secondary explosion if and when the magazine explode. NOT just 1 giant fireball.
But this being hollywood, of course it looks better if there are big bangs rather than a firecracker style explosion.
That still can't beat the Charlie's Angels II beginning scene where a RPG hits a tank head on and blows it up.
If I am not wrong...Crimson Tide shows the sonar display console like radar sweeping 360 degrees...That is blatantly wrong...I guess they depict it in such a way to make novices understand-they would'nt understand the 'waterfall' display...Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:Crimsom tide has some pretty realistic underwater explosions, esp. the part when the ADCAP blasts open the hull of the Akula, and you can see the primary explosion bubble, followed by the implosion caused by the water pressure rushing into the hull. Followed by the glow or air compressed in incandance.
Terminator 2 had a very realistic nuclear explosion scene... unlike The Peacemaker, where the old russian was unharmed by the nuclear explosion until the shockwave reached them (by right, they would have been burned badly, if not vapourized by the heat radiation from the moment of the bomb going off, before the supersonic shock wave reached them)
Depends, you would still get a trail of bubbles if the prop of the torpedo spins fast enough, causing cavitation... noisy as dunno what and something all sub caps try to avoid doing with their own screws...Originally posted by Kevin-1982:Anyone want to point out the errors?
