The squad of 7 men searched the tree line carefully. 3SG Cheng, the Sect Comm, peered through his infra-red scope, and found what he was looking for. As the rounds whizzed over their positions, he quickly depressed a small button beside his trigger. In that moment, the target was marked by a small rotating cursor on the helmet mounted sighting system worn by his men. Once the men had the target sighted, eached pressed a similar button on their assault rifles, sending a "ready" cue back to their section commander.
Once ready, he carefully pulled his trigger... making sure he made the first pressure a slightly long one for the network to send the "fire" cue to his men. In that instant, the rotating reticule turned solid red and stopped rotating. And the jungle was deafened by a roar of gun fire. Through the barrage of lead, some movement to his left caught his attention. Quickly sighting the area, he depressed the button and held it while quickly sweeping over the area of the movement.
The new cue was sent over the Section Fire Control System. This time the cue was a blinking line across the area. It indicated the firing arc that was required. Again the same process as the 7 barrels open fired on the section of the forest.
Checking his Engagement timer, 2.30 secs passed... more than enough time passed for the enemy to relay their coordinates for mortar shells to rain on them. Tapping another button on the side of his rifle, it sent the retrogade command down the network of 7. And immediately, everyman, unhooked a board from their back. Upon activation, the board hovered above the ground, the men mounted and made their exit. Before whizzing a away, a few deadly surprises were left behind. Hand grenades with an electronic timer fuze. They were set to go off 5 mins after they depart...
At 20km/hr, the men were outside the range of the mortar fire in no time.

Theres a lot of concepts I've been toying with. Some featured in this short passage.
Eg. The Section Fire Control System. Instead of shouting out "SECTION!! STRAIGHT AHEAD!!--- and u know the rest," Targets, fire arcs can be relayed across to everybody without yelling. What if the sect comm got sore throat?
The idea is that it will be integrated together with the SAR-21, and the designation button just beside the trigger, outside the trigger guard. Where one would normally place their finger when not shooting. The interface made simple. A rotating reticule for a single target. And a line to designate a fire arc. The first pressure of the trigger would send the fire order to the men.
The next thing I thought of was multi-purpose grenades. Grenades that double up as a "drop"-as-u-leave mine. Simple electronic timers and appropriate fuses to make it possible. Of course, not to mention -motion sensors that would be dropped by the sect comm that would act as a secondary trigger to the multi-purpose mines.
Finally, the most far fetched idea of all, the hoverboard. =D
Lol, mine wasn't meant to be a story. But some nice new infantry toys of the future. Especially hoverboards. haha.

I think in future we have mobile armor units like gundam liao ... still fight with flesh and blood meh?
SingaporeMacross
Yeah but you still need infantry to capture buildings what....
erijazz
Our infantry is going into mechanilise liao, didn't u guys hear abt it?

all the futuristic soldier stuff is not tt futuristic u noe. they are developing it and prototypes are soon rolling out for tests. think eventually our armies will really look like... clones from star wars!
