wah viper.. respect you man... like that you also know... yup... i saw them at sembawang camp... flying here and there.... and the tail part was so special... and its doesnt sound like normal heli... its sound lighter and it much much more slient then puma and Uh1hOriginally posted by Viper52:Singapore also has the Fennec and Apache (not delivered)
The helo you saw might be a Eurocopter EC120 or EC135, Eurocopter has a facility in the Loyang area and they have brought in civilian registered helos for maintenance and test flights. They have a tail rotor config similar to the HH-65 Dauphin in the pic
No choice, had to learn more about the local industry while looking for jobOriginally posted by NDU:wah viper.. respect you man... like that you also know... yup... i saw them at sembawang camp... flying here and there.... and the tail part was so special... and its doesnt sound like normal heli... its sound lighter and it much much more slient then puma and Uh1h
thanz for your info...

I think it is called Fenestron faired-in tail rotor.Originally posted by Viper52:No choice, had to learn more about the local industry while looking for job
The tail config is relatively rare, the more common users of that tail are the Gazelle, Dauphin, EC120 and EC135, can't remember what its called or why its not more commonly used despite it advantages (such as being quieter). Helicopter aerodynamics is not my area of speciality![]()
Thomas,Originally posted by thomasct:Hi Viper ,
My understanding is that helicopters from the Eurocopter facility do not do not conduct their test flights ( after repairs / servicing ) over mainland Singapore let alone RSAF bases.
Their normal test flights areas are over the South China Sea
As such that the Helicopters flying over sembawang camp are not from Eurocopter facility.

Hi NDU,
You will never see civilian helicopters (unless by special permission) flying over any RSAF bases.
Any unidentified / unapproved flights over RSAF bases & other key installations will be deem as " hostile " (9 11 aka )
The copter that you saw should be :
One of helcopters for the RSN helcopter progarm under going
test trials.
Helicopters from other countries armed forces on attachment / training if its in military colours
most probably what you saw was the sea hawk base on the colors you describe and the fact that there is one in sembawang rite now.Originally posted by NDU:hi..... i do agree and believe that SAF surely will set some rules on any flying zone in Singaporesecurity reason!!! ofcoz!!! however, i really saw those heli frying near our camp... and its like what Viper have said... between sembawang and johor... as for the colour... its like like grey or milky colour.....
cheers
yeah i saw something like that too when I was in OBS on Ubin at the start of this year. . . posted in another thread some months ago. .Originally posted by NDU:anyone know.... other then Puma, UH1H, chinhook, Apache.... what other heli we have? do we have something like this?? please note that the rear part of the heli!! i think i saw something like that!! http://www.uscg.mil/d13/dpa/images/Image89.jpg

!!!!! look like this??? then confirm i saw one not seahawk!!! coz... i the tail is 'in built' type... not this lah....Originally posted by Viper52:Clarencebk,
the Sikorsky S-70 is the manufacturer designation for the helicopter. The US Armed Forces use the S-70 family in various guises including the UH-60, HH-60, MH-60, SH-60. They are used by the US Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard and have names ending with 'Hawk' (eg BlackHawk, Pave Hawk, Seahawk)
The pic used is technically a S-70, but its one of the HH/MH-60 versions. A SH-60 Seahawk (which is in the running for the RSAF naval helo contract) looks like this:
More Seahawk info here:
http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/factfile/aircraft/air-sh60.html
According to the USN website, USS Harpers Ferry (LSD-49) is in Singapore at the moment. They don't have any organic helicopter or air wing attached, so I don't think it came from there. Unfortunately their site only covers the movement of the carriers and amphibious ships, so it might have came from an escort FFG that came with the LSD that we don't know about.
Status of the US Navy:

On the other hand, a Seahawk could easily have fit into a C-5/C-17 and flown all the way here(CVW-5 at Atsugi Japan is the closest place I know with Seahawks)...though not likely
NDU, did the helicopter you saw look anything like the following?Originally posted by NDU:!!!!! look like this??? then confirm i saw one not seahawk!!! coz... i the tail is 'in built' type... not this lah....

These are the most common helicopters with the Fenestron shrouded tail rotor you mentioned, other than the Dauphin that you'ce posted above[/b]
