No doubts, Band of Brothers and Saving Pte Ryan. Black Hawk Down is pretty good as well but the other 2 are really in a class of their own.Originally posted by alphanumeric:hey people, i'm interested to find out about nice war movies like black hawk down, saving pte ryan, we were soldiers and the like... any other good movies to recommend?

But a couple of oldies worth watching are All Quiet on the Western Front and A Bridge too Far. For Vietnam, try Platoon.
apparently it was due to the first 30 minutes scene at normandy beach - it was considered too violent. i guess the producers of the dvd refused to censor any scenes. so they have to ban the dvd altogether.Originally posted by Parka:I wonder why. Did they allow black hawk down without censoring?

that drill sergeant was one of the best pieces of acting i have ever seen!
IIRC the old Premiere 12 showed it once, caught it one night in camp while I was on duty, 1997 I think...Originally posted by IAF:Hey has anyone seen "Bravo Two Zero" with Sean Bean? i don't recall it being shown here.
Apparently, D-day vets interviewed have expressed that Saving Pte. Ryan was more realistic. Steven Spielberg asked for D-day vets' help in recreating the Omaha beach scenario. The actual landing as depicted in Saving Pte Ryan is more accurate...many Higgins boats did not actually land on the shore. There were too many mine-studded obstacles; so what actually happened was that the troops had to run off the ramp or jump overboard into the sea and wade to shore. Needless to say, alot of them drowned from the weight of their equipment and many others became waterlogged clay pigeons for the German MG gunners.Originally posted by CenturionMBT:The longest day graphics not so good, but it is more accurate than saving private ryan
